Ok Marshall historians, who has played or heard this.....

They were cascading amps back in the early 70's, that's where the 2203 came from. Didn't AC/DC use those at one time?
I would be think those 200 watters will light up like Christmas trees just like the Majors did if you try feeding them any super high gain.

the story or rumor in History of Marshall is that it was designed for angus. who knows. Regarding cascading I was just pointing out that they were actually pretty sophisticated as opposed to the straight one wire mod type thing.

that amp had something cool on it, prob one of the first to use a variable slope control to "sweep" thru different tones. I use it on mine

Did it have a presence control? I dont see it.

It has the 4.7k with a .1uf cap across preset, like have the presence control dimed ;)

+1
Yes suppose to be for AC/DC but I have never gotten confirmation that they actually ever used them.

oY!!!!! Well that would be mod #1 to the amp :D

what a trip. I see bass and I dont even look but that would be an awesome guitar amp too with some minor changes. I guess I should have learned my lesson from the fact that the super bass sounds so killer.

Cool info and they need to re-issue this amp

Scott,
Reissue it? In the collectors market, sometimes things are very rare because nobody wanted it the first time. ;)

And I can only imagine how many rainforests will need to be devastated to build you a custom, hardwood headshell for that bad boy. :D

So while everyone else is trying to figure out how to get that cranked Marshall sound out of a 5 watt amp, Scott is upset that his 100 watters aren't loud enough and has decided to up the ante. If I were you, I'd combine your fishing hobby with playing this amp. Take it down to the river, plug it in and something like this will happen:

n00b youtube poster................

Greatest fishing clip ever.

I rather enjoyed the time I had the Fortin pre Fortin on my deck and dimed it while facing towards a tree full of birds myself :D

You know...that 2000's head box is large enough to make a lobster trap out of it.

it reminds me of when I was little boy playing with matches.

The first JCM 2000!

I saw that amp in Doyle's book years ago but have never seen one in person. I remember thinking that it looked like a killer amp and wondered why it was so short lived.

Didn't Rick St.Pierre build Malcolm Young a 400w Wizard head??

Geezus!

Mark

I remember reading in a Swedish mag that Accadacca had a sound man that complained about stage volume. He was promptly fired. They also played in a Swiss town where the allowed dB limit for concerts was 115 dB, or something. The tour manager went to the officials and paid the fine BEFORE the gig

Hey Scotty....... I have a nice, used Crate PA head here. 6 CHANNELS!!!!!!! 350 WATTS!!!!!!!!! AND it's solid state!!!! Solid state is the technological advancement of obsolete tube technology.

I'm sure Mike could mod this into a sweet lobster trap for you!
