It's a little thingy that looks like a bra that goes directly across the center of the speaker. It's used to diffract/deflect the sound so that if some yokel mics the direct center of the cab (which has been known to happen by well-meaning but retarded studio engineer or live sound types), it doesn't sound as bad as it would normally (without the bra).
The right cab and speakers should not need a beam blocker or anything similar. I use an Ear Candy buzzbomb with Sugar Cone speakers and have no need for anything like that - the MOD 50 kills through it.

I dont know, since youve stated that you prefer EL34's due to their midrange, dont you think that a super high power, very neutral speaker might be whats lacking the midrange character? Just a suggestion, but it sounds like you would be better off with a good set of greenbacks.
