I finally got to install 2 old Mullard EL 34( I found 4 EL 34,5 12ax7 and a Brimar on a old Sound City amp) on my 50 watt Marsha HB/HBE with Fat Switch,C45 and Sat switch. After installing the power tubes I adjusted the bias.I heard a big difference, I was able to crank the amp higher than 6 with out getting muddy, the low end was tighter and the mids were much clearer than the SED's. I also used the old Mullards on V2,Brimar on V3, another old Mullard on V4 and a Chinese low noise 12ax7 on V1. The old Mullard 12ax7 doesn't have as much gain as the Tun Sol reissue, but the distortion is smoother. The Mullard reissue starts squealing with the gain pass 7! I better record as many tracks as possible because once the tubes wear out,it will be very diffucult to buy NOS EL 34 Mullard's every 6 month to a year!

Too bad the older tubes are hard to come by, expensive and they don't make 'em like they used to.
