Regardless of how I paid for it, my wife would NEVER understand this one!

Come on Steve. You have been at this a long time and married a while also. You have passed so much gear through that front door of yours there is no way your wife could be keeping track.

So here is my famous line when my wife asks me about a piece of gear. It is all in the inflection. You have to make it sound like a question to her, but you really mean it as a statement. You say, "Oh, you have never seen this one before"... You put a question mark sounding inflection at the end and you are implying your wife doesn't pay attention to you or your hobby and she will back away, but what you are really saying is YOU HAVEN"T SEEN THIS GUITAR BECAUSE I JUST GOT IT. :)

This works every time about 50% of the time.

I'm approved, just got the response. Edit.. I think I will offer the 16k since no one has offered anything yet.

Not the worst 16k spent eh?

Anyone have 16k ?

Hi John,

Event: Guitars at Auction - February 27

Seller: Guernsey's

Event starts: Feb 27, 2016 14:00:00 EST

So which one of you guys paid the $67,500 for the guitar?

Does anyone else not see this? Is this not a red flag for anyone? I guess I'm not bidding on this one.

Sold $67,500.00

Guy got ripped off.
Price tag says it originally sold for only $800.00

  Thats just ridiculous. 67k

Not a bad investment for the original price it went for eh?

All of the other guitars auctioned off went for way less than their estimates. The SRV strat, est. $300-500,000 went for $80,000. Most didn't sell.

This is one of 5 Charvel guitars that were given to EVH by Grover jackson as sort of a peace offering. EVH was very pissed at Charvel for selling the B&Y clones and labeling them with his name in ads. Grover stopped doing it at some point, but there was still a rift. The guitars were to smooth it over, although I'm not sure it really worked. This particular guitar was played by EVH when he was on Entertainment Tonight in '82 with Valerie. They did a profile on the two of them at home and Ed was sitting with Valerie playing it through some practice amp. Piece 'o VH history for sure and the guitar would be worth $10K in that condition if it had nothing to do with EVH. Those B&Y strat head serialized '80s guitars are the holy grail of Charvels...

Here is Ed's receipt for this guitar. Note it is one of five:

Here is a verification that Charvel/Jackson did for a previous owner:

Here is the guitar when Neil's Vintage had it:

Finally, here is EVH playing it on Entertainment Tonight with Valerie sitting there. It's a bit hard to tell, but if you look at the stripe pattern, it is the same guitar that is now for auction:
