Hi fellas!
We are doing some renos and looking at how we are using our space at home and looks like it makes most sense to move my studio from one side of the basement to the back side as there are a set of sliding doors that hides this from the rest of the finished basement. I liked my space because i had built bass traps in corners and some panels to tame reflections. The ceiling was dropped ceiling with ceiling tiles that had insulation properties. From a bouncing sound perspective, it was great. It was however a bit dead. The down side of moving now, is that I share a space with my HVAC return and main ducts and the furnace and water heater in the back. Washing machine too. From a recording perspective, I can turn all these off when recording with mics. Acoustically though, I now have an 8 foot exposed ceiling. I was thinking of just painting it for an industrial look and hanging some panels over the mixing area or where my stripped down drumkit will be. Has anyone recorded in a basement with exposed ductwork and open ceiling? How did it sound?
