Bearing in mind I'm 24 and don't have too much disposable income... here are my rigs! Anyone have any advice or positive criticism?

Cool! I'm glad to see other younger guys interested in rack stuff. I'm almost done with my rack, and I'm also in my lower 20s.

Do you have specific purposes for each one?

Find an old BBE 442 or 462 and use it after the MP1, you can thank me later

That's some older stuff, but some good stuff. I mean does it sound good to you? Who gives a shit what anyone thinks. I never had an ADA myself, but forced a friend to buy one and use to push him aside so I could use it, LOL. I can't remember what it sounded like. But ADA MP1 was the shit back in the day.

Those are both cool setups. I'd rock the hell out of either of those.

Nice man!!! I struggle to find other dudes outside the Djent scene who use old school racks.

The JMP-1 set up is my general day to day recording set up using the cab sim outs, the ADA is my whacky noise making rig for some Racer X and Shrapnel records style shred. Both are pretty budget rigs as I don't really have the funds for an Axe FX and pedal board even though that's what I'd like to end up with one day. Something about having the real retro gear feels good!

Does it really make a difference? I've heard people say yes and others say no. I use the deep button and presence on the EL84 and that makes a huge difference

One thing you can do with both those rigs is getting a proper dry-wet mix going. Pick up a RJM Minimix and stick in the back, split the output from the preamp and send one line straight to the mixer and one to the FX. Set FX 100% wet, adjust mix to taste on the RJM which feeds the poweramp. Digital conversion isn´t that hot, so this might make the basic tone more punchy.

HUGE difference, the old BBE's can be had cheap, try it...

I believe BBEs originally made their way into guitar racks to get some sparkle and extra tone shaping when using high-power solidstate poweramps, which was all the rage for a while in the later part of the 80s and very early 90s even though the Boogie tube rack amps were already available.

The maximizers do make a big difference that can be good or bad depending on the application, but always need to be used in moderation.

I would sell both of those racks and get a DSL100 head and start building a pedal board when you can.

I went to the local music store in 94, the guy there said "Check this out, I just got a shipment of these in" I asked "What's it do?" he said "Makes everything sound killer"... We ran a BBE 462 through the fx loop of a 5150.. first we had the amp sound good, (which was easy) then hit the fx button. I couldn't pull cash out of my pocket fast enough. It wasn't overly processed, which is easy to do with the BBE, just gave it a bump, and added clarity. So just add a little, it makes everything more clear. I still use it every day.

Had one, sold it, doesn't suit my needs.

I needed a rack unit with cab emulation out for recording, all my effects contained with a tuner in a box I can fit a small MIDI pedal in the back and throw it all in my MR2 for gigs and practice. This does the trick!

Never been a fan of dancing on big pedal boards and looking at the floor life. I run around alot so I have my 4 stomp MIDI with Rythm, Lead, Clean and Wild Mode haha. More space on stage for posing haha

With some amps it can improve the tone, with others it can take away some of the tube 'feel'. Does add clarity but also makes some amps more solid state like. Cheap enough though..I think you can grab one for like 50 bucks. And if you don't like it throw it in your bands PA rack......

Are you happy with them? If so, you are good!

I was a little unhappy at first, but then I remember it's 80s gear, you need to sit for a good few hours plugging in your tones and finding the right settings and it payed off!
