I'm on an Orange kick again. I do love the Orange sound as a contrast to all of the Marshall type stuff I've got.

Has anyone A/B'd any of the big Orange amps to a Gain Baby/Crush? I had a Crush 120 Pro and, with an EQ in the loop, it sounded seriously damn good next a RV. I didn't record it but they were super close just jamming around on them. It almost feels crazy not to at least try an EQ in the loop of a Gain Baby and potentially save like $2k.

Between only those 2? I can't remember the last time I saw either lol. Th-30s are still aplenty, and awesome. The dual dark did nothing for me, and I really dig Orange.

I've convinced myself I don't need anything this year, but that new OR60 is trying to break me!

Dual Darks are hard to find, and expensive when you do find them.

I had a TH30H, and have a RV50 MKIII now. I'd definitely get another TH30H if I didn't have the RV50.

Yeah, that OR60 is getting at me too. I have one pre-ordered. I reaaaally miss my Rockerverbs. I'm open to others. The main ones in my sights are a Rockerverb MKIII, TH100 and OR60 (if not the Dual Dark). I essentially plan to end up with two of the options.

The TH100 is $1k, the RV and OR will be new. Is it worth skipping the TH100(30) ya think to end up with an OR60 and RV? If not a DD, that's kind of where I'm at.

Looks like they're about $3k+ right now. Damn scarcity. I get why people are listing them for what they do but I ain't paying nearly that much. I feel pretty positive I'd like the RV, TH100 AND OR60 more. How do you feel about the TH30 against the RV? I've had both but it's been a while.

Orange told me to try a Dark Terror if I really wanted that tone, that the mark-up is definitely too much for a used DD. Hard to argue with that. They're pretty hot on the new OR60 (of course). The demos sound killer!

The TH30 was great to be able to lower the power down, because it was still stupid loud for a 30w amp.
I think I like the RV a bit more. It feels like it's more diverse, even though I only use the dirt channel 90% of the time.
The attenuator on the RV also works really well, so I can still get most of what I want and not go deaf.

Updated title and original post. I think I'm off the Dual Dark hunt (unless I find a stupid good deal) but have other questions.

I don't know a lot about Orange Amps ... so I don't know if it's a steal ... but they have one ..... and for 35 bucks in shipping you can try it for 45 days assuming you have a GC close by to return it to .... and you don't mind putting up the 2700 till you decide if you want to keep it or not

I've tried numerous amps this way ...... but I also have a GC five minutes down the road from me

I had an OR100 a few years ago and really loved it. At the same time, I had access to their crush solid state stuff and there was no contest.
I didn't know an OR60 was coming out- AWESOME! I want it

I don't know I could pass on a TH100 at that price, but it might be a bit redundant with the OR60. They're voiced different enough, but if you're like me, you're dialing it to that one sound anyway. I don't think you can go wrong either way, but I'd definitely lean to the OR over the TH. The RV is pretty easy to justify with either, they're killer amps. I regret moving my mki to no end...

If I had 2k to spend on an Orange amp, I would buy a Matamp.
As much as I agree with this for my own purposes it depends on his needs. The Dual Dark is voiced way different than any Matamp.

Also the closest Matamp would be the GT2 which has less gain on tap, and a thicker coarse breakup. The Dual Dark definitely has a more aggressive upper midrange grind. Not that you can't easily correct that with the right boost or OD, and you'll never get the Dual Dark to do that huge vintage Matamp blocking distortion sound.

As far as value I think $2500 shipped for a brand new made just for you Matamp in the color of your choice, vs a used Orange at $2700 is a no brainer, but if the Dual Dark is the sound he wants...

I'd love a Matamp over a Dual Dark. I haven't dug into the best one in a long time. No brainer, I agree! I'll dig around on that now. Also looking at Orange OR120's. Both sound insane in the demos. So I'm at Matamp/OR120, RV, OR60.

I messaged GC about two weeks ago about it since I don't understand the description on it too well but they didn't respond. Sounded risky so I looked on. Glad I did, I think the DD isn't the right direction.

I have a Matamp GT150. Personally I don't run it often on the stereotypical stoner/doom lowest setting on the Bass Boost, and prefer to run it on the 4th setting which has a good bit more upper midrange emphasis. Even then because of the Bass Boost control being at the front of the signal path instead of after the 1st gain stage like an Orange FAC control it is a clearer, deeper, and less fizzy sound. With my Keeley Java outfront boosting it it gets solidly into the more aggresive and fizzy midrange kerrang Orange sound by adding gain before the Bass Boost like in a vintage Orange's preamp.

I was supposed to have one come the first of April but they got pushed back and looks like it'll be another few weeks unfortunately.

Sometimes trying to buy an amp used can be a real pain in the ass. No good local deals (besides the TH100 I'm skipping I guess to fund others) and the ones who'll ship are priced like a retailer b-stock.

I’m selling an MKII RV50 for $1200 if you’re interested. Beast of an amp and takes all types of power tubes
