have two guitars - strat with sd 1/4 pounders, ibanez rg with evo/area61/sd59. both generally tuned to E or E-Flat

have a vh140c 212 at my house, but wanted a good amp to take with me when i visit my parents house.

tones I'm going for - Mercyful Fate, King Diamond, GWAR, NWOBHM, classic thrash style stuff. MF/KD/GWAR are the favorites. I'm not bunghole (friends with him though)

so - since a dano fish n chips costs about the same as an SD-1 or a Bad Monkey, what would be better for what I'm going for? I guess an OD would add more gain. But I would think an eq adds more tonal versatility (and adds more gain when the level slider is turned up, right? or at least it seems like gain is increased). And I have two high output pickups that I could put in the Ibanez if needed be. Evolution is hot, but I think these are hotter.

keep recommendations within the realm of what i mentioned before - dano f&c, sd-1, bm. those are the main candidates. not willing to spend over 50 dollars.

and fwiw - cab that the amp is coming with is an epi valve jr cab with eminence lady luck speaker

I used a clean boost with mine, sort of a rangemaster style, and it was great. I think you could look at the usual suspects, Bad Monkey, SD-1, etc.

On youtube Rob Chapman gives a TT plays metal demo (it's funny) but I think he uses either a Rat or MXR to boost it.

will there be enough versatility with an OD vs EQ? i'm not planning on scooping the mids or anything like that

Well the EQ certainly gives you more tonal control, but the TT controls work well, you can find great tones all over the place, and a pedal like the Bad Monkey has pretty solid tone control as well.

IMHO the TT has plenty of gain for a lot of metal, and a boost would just help tighten things up a bit. I suppose it depends on what flavor you prefer. I might wait to buy a pedal until you get a chance to mess with the amp.
