Out of curiosity, what did the bad reviews on the Recto cab say?

I want to say I've heard they're not as tight as some other stuff.

IMO it's not a very spongy sound, at least not as much as people hold their noses up to it. There are other cabs with less resonance that let the speakers do all of the work. The Recto cab has more resonance and as thus the cab/wood/construction play more of a role in the actual tone production. To me it sounds a bit deeper with more body, and softens the really ear splitting high frequencies when you crank up the volume. At least that's been my experience with it. Get it, it brings the balls :D

That's my plan. I'm counting my pennies here to see if I trade my cab now at Music Go Round if I'll have enough. :D I'm hoping I can swing it!

My Mark V sounds incredible through the Mesa Stiletto cab I just got, and the speakers aren't even broken in yet

Here's kind of a related question...if I got the 2x12, is it the same width as the oversized or the standard cab?

EDIT: So the rectifier is the oversized and the stiletto is the standard? Am I understanding this?

The Mesa Rectifier cab is oversized.
The Mesa Stiletto cab is traditional size.

Not sure if its the same width but the recto and stiletto cabs are the same width

According to Sweetwater:

Rectifier: Dimensions: 32-7/8 (H) x 30-1/8 (W) x 14-1/4 (D)
Stiletto: Dimensions: 30-1/4" x 29-7/8" x 14-1/4" x 11-1/2" (top)

That amp will sound good through any good cab. Comes down to what you like best.

hmmm....a 1/4 inch

I love my Mesa 2x12 recto cab. It can be a little boomy, but it really is a fantastic sounding cab. Very full and despite the slight boominess, it is pretty tight and well defined. It sounds fantastic with the stock V30s and my Mark III, though I ended up putting Mesa C90s in there now so I can run it a little more safely with the wattage of my Herbert. Either way, if you can score a Mesa 2x12 cab, they are sweet and built like tanks.

And if you really want a cab for that .50 Cal, see if you can find a used Mesa 4x12 stiletto/traditional cab. That cab was perfect for my Mark III. Tight and mean sounding. Maybe a little thin sounding on the low end when compared to a recto cab, but it has such great definition to it I doubt you'll notice. I've seen used stiletto cabs going for $450-500 used.

Lastly, if you have the money, I couldn't be happier with my Mills cab. I sold my Stiletto cab to fund my Mills and I've never looked back. They are pricey and don't turn up used often, but they are amazing cabs.
