I played at a festival yesterday and the backline had an Orange OR15 (pretty sure that’s what it was or CR15 {don’t know if that’s a thing lol}). The previous band used it and it sounded great so I decided to use it. This is the first time I’ve played through an Orange. It sounded like a beefier Marshall with some lower mids. I really dug it. Is this the typical Orange sound? Is this similar to a Rockerverb?

Orange definitely has it's own vibe. I've had an OR15, actually, and it was a pretty killer amp! Got pretty nasty with a boost, and had plenty of gain. They have a unique tone for sure, the mids are kinda "sludgy". Ghost got some great tones with them.

I’ve never owned an Orange but I keep saying sometime I’ll give it a try . What’s the most modern voiced metal orange ?

The OR series is imho definitely the best of the Orange series other than some of their ptp stuff, which sounds completely different and not high gain really. I remember the OR15 being one of the better mini amps I’ve tried. The Rockerverb, Thunderverb, TH and dual dark ones weren’t as good imo, but they are all to me the same flavor/feel more or less. I feel they still get outclassed though if you compare them to the truly great amps out there

Dual Dark and TH30 & 100. Not that great imo. You’re Wizards would totally humiliate them lol

Probably the Rockerverb. But, it'll still sound like an Orange!
They all have the orange flavor, although their vintage ‘70’s ones and ptp stuff is nothing like their other current stuff

Good looking out . I picture them as stoner rock and sludgy so your comment makes sense
They are for sure, but when I say other amps outclassed them, it was also implied that I felt other amps outclassed them for those styles as well. Some of my favorite stoner/doom/sludge sounds are using my vintage fuzzes into a powerful clean to semi dirty platform amp like a Hiwatt or my NMV Marshall or Alessandro’s

What Fuzz pedal you like most

My #1 by a good margin is a ‘70’s Foxx Tone Machine. Very expensive these days though and rare. The 2000’s re-issue is like 90% as good, still not cheap and rare though, but the Danelectro French Toast is 90% or so as good as the re-issue and only like $30-40, made in China copy. My other favorite is the ‘90’s Green Russian Big Muff (sounds massive and more of a stoner/doom vibe). The Formula B Soviet is an excellent copy that I like as much as my original. Like all categories of gear, I’ve pretty much tried them all with fuzzes. I cut through the diplomatic bs and can tell you honestly those Foxx Tonemachine’s will make 99% of fuzzes sound worthless in comparison. Even the Danelectro one sent lots of expensive boutique fuzzes packing for me. Everyone I showed my French Toast to bought one immediately. It’s a no brainer if you want that sound

Foxx sounds amazing
The 2 best pedals of all time to me are an original Foxx tone machine and original Klon. Everything else for me would be a very distant 2nd. I never understood the appeal of fuzzes for a while, but then one time at a guy’s house plugged in to his original Foxx into his ‘70’s Orange OR120 and I was blown away with the first power chord I played. He also had a real Jose modded Marshall, but honestly I thought it was just good, not amazing

If you’re into that sound like I am then I would recommend it as much as a priority as getting a c+ and more attainable thankfully. It also sounds incredible through the clean channel of a c+ btw. The Wizard ch1’s you have aren’t bad either as fuzz platforms, but there are better for that imo. If you get your hands on one please don’t say “so many good ones out there” ever again because you will see how much worse 99.99% of other fuzzes will sound to you afterwards haha. Let’s cut through that bs. Learn from my mistakes of all the time and money I spent learning this. The same would all also apply if you get a real Klon ever. You will instead be saying so much garbage out there, why can’t anyone actually make something good

You ever listen to the fuzz on Electric Wizard ?

The OR15 is actually much closer to a Rockerverb than an OR. It’s a slightly tweaked Jim Root Terror put into a head shell and given the OR title to fool the vintage obsessed goofballs out there who refuse to touch something related to the Slipknot guy.

I’ve owned most of the full-sized modern Orange amps and ran a Rockerverb for years as my main. Great amp, very limited kind of a one trick pony, but nothing else out there sounds exactly like an Orange. The clean channel is an embarrassment but supposedly the Mk III version improved that.

Yes, but a very long time ago. Would have to listen again to refresh my memory. Honestly though I don’t really care anymore about other band’s sounds or what they use
