Ok, so here is my current ODs that are first in line after my guitar:
Tai Chi> MXR

Now the pedals may change, but the basic questions are the same.
I usually have 2 ODs, 1 softer for 'violin' warm sustaining leads and 1 'attack' for a clean boost (just a sliver of gain).

Examples of my violin: Joyo Tai Chi, Maxon TOD9
Examples of my attack: MXR, 808x, Fortin Grind

Should I go violin>attack or attack> violin?
What is the thinking or the advantages for either?
I've tried both ways and wonder what others are doing.
It's this way now on my board because it is easier to wire it up, lol.

I go attack into violin. You may want to boost the violin but probably not smooth your attack. That's my reasoning.

I have a bunch but only use a few at a time. I'm a believer in the clean boost or light overdrives being stacked into higher gain overdrives/distortions or amp-in-a-box type pedals. Some guys like running the more saturated pedals into tubescreamers or clean boosts for more of a post-gain volume bump but I don't like how it changes the feel of the distortion pedal.

Usually, whichever pedal is later in the chain determines the overall character so if I'm using a distortion pedal as my main dirt, I'd prefer to drive it like I would an amp.

Right now I have EP booster>Eternity>Barber Direct Drive>Bogner Red but it changes constantly. I also throw in a Muff, Octafuzz or Keeley TS9 from time to time.

I currently have a Cusack Screamer--->Suhr Shiba Reloaded--->Suhr Koko Boost on my board.

Usually I only run one at a time as a boost. Lately I have the Cusack set with no gain and the level about half way up to push the others up a notch when needed. So I like the higher gain pedal second and the boost pedal first as well.

Mine goes Function FX Clusterfuzz -> Schaeffer Replica -> Thorpy FX Gunshot - > Rockett Archer.

Just curious, do you ever use the Archer and Gunshot together in that order? How much gain do have dialed in on the Archer? Had my buddy's silver Archer for awhile and found that it was equally awesome when clean boosting or with the drive cranked up. Love that pedal. It's a quality Klon KTR clone for those wondering.

I go from low gain to high gain. I like to have the boosters first. So I put he tubescreamers, Klones or Timmy pedals first, than pedals like zendrive, kingsley jester, bogner red, etc. recently I am experimenting with running overdrives at more than 9v. Love the Timmy at 12v, will be trying it at 18 v soon.

I run OD (bogner blue) > Fuzz (blackout special twosome) > Clean Boost (EQD tone job eq). I prefer the volume or clean boost at the end instead of pushing the front of the real dirt pedals.

I have always gone from lowest to highest gain. My current signal chain goes.... Guitar --> PolyTune 2 --> OD808 (volume maxed, gain min) --> Fulltone OCD --> Flux Drive --> Amp Input.

lots of good info here; thanks!
I think I will try the consensus here and switch it up to go attack OD>smooth violin
