Organ

That's a pretty hardcore machine. Serious drawbars, lol.

Really amazing organ. If I could choose one instrument, it would be a pipe organ.

I have a digital pipe organ, and it sounds very good...but Viscount has a new updated version with better and more sounds...I also use it as a controller for Hauptwerk software which sounds amazing, and you can buy models of real pipe organs that are professionally sampled, so it's wide open.

My biggest challenge is finding speakers that can handle the 32' (16 Hz) and 64' (8 Hz) pipes, the best is a pair of headphones I got from Korg for free with a keyboard, that can get down to 10 Hz.

You think that's a big organ? You should see my organ.

I kid. It's tiny.

That’s a big ride. Must feel amazing to drive that big rig.

@rsm

Do you know what the wedged device on top of the organ is?

And what the fuck is the other keyboard the other dude is playing??

@lol I'm guessing the wedge device on top of the organ could be a fuzz / distortion box or an old Binson Echorec delay?

The other keyboard looks like a Hohner Pianet, the Beatles, Zombies and Genesis were the only other bands I know that used these.

Thank you sir. I was thinking some sort of fuzz or distortion box. He’s using a Leslie too and I had figured he’d just crank up the volume to get any sort of distortion since those old Leslie’s had tubes and would distort no different than a guitar tube amp.

How about this one? I was intrigued with the device he’s got on top of the organ that looks to have even a transformer of sorts.

Atomic Rooster with a young Carl Palmer :love:

that was some kind of filter or distortion effect.

Like Jon Lord, he used Marshall amps for distortion / OD. Rare Bird used fuzz too, which Lord didn't use...Lord used some ring modulator effects in the '70s, but sparringly. They all used Leslie cabs too.

Correct me if I am wrong but I believe the drummer in this video is actually Ric Parnell. Also a solid drummer though.

I was never sure what exactly Vincent Crane used amp and drive wise. He's unbelievably underrated though. I've loved his stuff since his time with Arthur Brown. And that Hiwatt stack is awesome. John DuCann didn't get the credit he deserved either as a guitar player and vocalist tbh. Andromeda, Atomic Rooster and Hard Stuff are top tier imo.

One of my favorite organ solos of all time goes to Gypsy by Uriah Heep. Ken Hensley was amazing on organ.

could be? I know Carl Palmer was in the band before ELP...I never really kept up with AR.

I think many organists in the late 60s - 70s used guitar amps for distortion, and some guitar / studio effects on Hammonds. I think Jon Lord had a treble booster at some point, built into the conversion box to take the Hammond output and transform it into 1/4" TS guitar amp input.

Ken Hensley (Uriah Heep) is another underrated organist, so are Mark Stein (Vanilla Fudge), Goldy McJohn (Steppenwolf), and Felix Cavaliere (Rascals). IMO

also Steve Nieve who played organ for Elvis Costello and the Attractions;

Atomic Rooster seemed to have quite a bit of turnover. John DuCann ended up bailing due to Vincent Crane wanting to go the bluesy/soul style and was replaced with Chris Farlowe for vocals. I do love me some Chris Farlowe; his time with Colosseum is legendary imo.

When it comes to organ, German Krautrock of the 70s was heavily organ driven.

Not German, but one of my favorite organ driven bands had to be Aardvark. I believe they were English. Positive the organ was run through a guitar amp as well, and not a Leslie. That distorted Hammond is so awesome.

I'm reminded of an old joke...

What's better than roses on a piano?
Tulips on an organ.
