Oscillation on ch. 3 & 4, what gives ?

Gain 5-10, vol. 8, master 2-8. Hard pick attack heard than timbre is heard, hold note for a few seconds, than tone oscillates. If u play fast u Only hear the pick attack and not the timbre as if u were almost tapping the pickup with the pick. U hold a note than u can hear timbre and than the tone oscillates. Does it with every guitar, used 8 different guitars , therefore not guitar. Any one experience this ? Hagen.
 
that was my initial thoughts. Wondering if others have had this issue ? Fairly new amp with new tubes from factory built. But these days tubes are inconsistant. Not sure which ones affect ch.3 & 4, and the gain stages ?
 
V1 Used by all channels
V2 Used by channel 4
V3 Used by channel 2/3/4
V4 Used by all channels
V5 Mixer and Send buffer
V6 Return driver
V7 Phase Inverter

Someone, please correct me if the above is not right.

And I would always start by changing the V1 first as that is the primary stage in your amp.

Very subjective and difficult question. Ruby (selected Chinese) is the official recommendation by Diezel. Naturally many other brands work very well also. Currently I have TungSols in all slots, but next time I retube I will try Rubys again, just for curiosity since it has been a while since I had them and many do favour them. Not that I would have anything wrong in my sound, but I can always go back with TungSols if I want. To be honest, I have not gotten a bad sound out of my amp ever with any tubes and I haev tried many (full load of same brand, mixes of brands, full of hyped NOS-tubes, mix of new and NOS, etc.) - Of course it takes a bit EQ-work when you make a change.

This always sounds so stupid and rude answer (of which it is not inteded), but please try the search function, there are numerous discussions about the tubes here in this very forum.

But I would not be too concerned about the tube brand at this stage, but rather would for example borrow a set that is proved to be fully functional from you friend. Just to be able to diagnose wether the problem you have is the tubes or something else. I hope it would be the tubes - Luckily usually it is.

We burn in for 24 hours minimum but nobody can be
sure tubes will not fail after 25 hours.

High grade Chinese/Shuguang 12AX7 B grade or C grade. Cheap and readily available www.thetubestore.com Jon is good there, he'll help you out. In Ontario too - so fast delivery.

mo, r u sure about those tubes ? i have a 2 warehouses down the street from jon, and have built/own 5 in that area, hahah, small world. live 15 min. from there, hahaha

Ya, Diezel typically install high grade Chinese 12AX7s in their monster amps for a number of reasons:
- consistency
- availability and low price
- gain levels
- relatively low noise floor
- durability

Over the years of owning one kind of Diezel or another, or a couple at once :lol: :LOL: , they've always come loaded with Chinese 12AX7 preamps, or are recommended to be replaced with Chinese 12AX7s by Herr Peter himself. They've been what he's recommended for years and unless I fell off the wagon, this is what he'll continue to recommend. The Ruby pre's if they're out there, are rebranded Chinese to the best of my knowledge. I've always used 12AX7B or C tubes - right through left to right - in all my Diezels and they're always sounded the best (and I've experimented with Tung Sol, TAD, Philips, JJs, etc.)

Hmmm...Quoting myself. I am getting more and more idiotic day after day. :doh:

I must have confused the thread to another one I have been posting into lately as I have not noticed that this thread is about Hagen. I thought that this is about VH4 and hence the above tube layout. I apologize my illiteracy.

FYI due to the shielded socket base size, Tung Sol do not fit into the Hagen .TS are a little oversized ..if you still want to use some you will have to unscrew the shield base which isn't hard to do but you'll loose the whole shield on the tube
Just wanted to warn potential Tung sol buyers for this amp ;)
 
Than I should try the right ones that do fit. What are the right ones ? Where do I get the rights ones in Canada ?
