Other guitars that get the Rickenbacker jangle?

Are there any other modern guitars that are hollow bodied with toaster pickups that get the Rik style sound without spending 2k?

I think an actual Ric can be had in the $1200-1500 range pretty frequently. I think the key really is the pickups. You could probably just get some toasters and put them in something like a semi hollow tele and get pretty close. Do you want a 12 string? Because that will limit the options. If the Ric neck bums you out their 620 and 660 series have wider necks.

For straight Ric looks the Schecter Stargazer looks the part, and Dillion has a couple models as well. You could also try to find a Tokai Rockinbetter. I've never played any of them though so no opinion on playability or tone.

So I went to Ash today and played a 330 and a 360. Plugged them both into an AC15 and they sounded totally different, hard to imagine they have the same basic parts in them. Anyway, the 330 was the bugger. Had the juice I was looking for. I took down a slew of guitars I haven't played in years to trade and they hooked me up. Took her home. My tech restrang her and did a quick set up, I plugged into my AC30 and viola'. Just beautiful sounding. Very stoked. Gonna use it tomorrow on a session.

Awesome. I had a 620 that I never should have sold. Rics just have a "thing".
