id love to know more about the SLO time period that he was seen using them..didnt seem to be for very long.

Gary used the SLO-100 for the "Still Got The Blues" tour. 1990. Having two heads side by side on stage, each with a single Marshall 4X12" cabinet, he used only one, the other was a spare.
His preference was to use only the rhythm channel with his Marshall Guv'nor boost pedal for leads.
In his book "Amps! The other half of rock and roll" Ritchie Fliegler states, "The best Soldano I ever played belonged to Irish guitar great Gary Moore. The amount of drive and fat tone this thing put out was staggering; I couldn't shut it off. Mike Soldano has definitely added his own spin to an old song- and that's a fine thing, a truly fine thing."
In his Marshall cabinets Gary utilized EV speakers.
According to Graham Lilley, Gary's set most of the EQ wound up- not all the way, but quite high.. The stage volume is very high, a circumstance we had to be wary of, because of the horn section.
Gary's floor pedals were comprised of the aforementioned Guv'nor, a Ibanez TS-10 Tube Screamer. A Ibanez digital delay, Boss DD3 Digital delay Boss RV2 digital reverb, which makes a touch of chorus available to him. And in the rack, we've got an Alesis Qudraverb.
On the LP Gary used the Soldano, the prototype Marshall JTM-45 head, his 1972 Super Bass, a black faced '63 Fender Twin and a Jim Kelly 2012 combo.
Some pics and descriptions of Gary's older Marshalls

By the time the tour for his second blues era LP "After Hours" Gary was using a single Hot Rod 50 watt, along with a Marshall Bluesbreaker, his Alesis Quadraverb, a Fender Dual Showman head silverfront and Marshall 4X12" cabs.

Atomic Playboy, Thank you sir! Lots of info there!
If there is a book, I will take two!

+11111!!!!!. yes, thankyou very much for the detailed rig rundown...its reassuring to know that someone followed, and kept track of what Gary used at all times...very, very cool...If you ever put all this in a book about him, I for one am buying! Please stay in touch w/us Gary Moore fans! :)

I even love his cheesy G-Force power pop stuff. He was THE guitar player for me in the 80's. Got everything I could. Wore out We Want More, Corridors of Power, Back On The Streets and Run For Cover. Production was a little soft for me on Wild Frontier and After The War definitely shows he's ready to try something other than Hard Rock ie. It's just an OK hard rock record. Of course Blood Of Emeralds off that is still kick ass. Never cared for his Soldano tone. Too much saturation. I don't blame the amp, just the settings on his pedal I think.

Wow! Thanks guys.. Of my trio of fav guitarists, Malmsteen Moore and Stevens, each has their own brilliance for different reasons. SS is the only one that I have had contact with and he has a photographic memory of his equipment and recordings, which helps immensely.
That there are so many of you who love Gary Moore here really encourages me. Hey Skoora, I remember you from Metro amp forum, I am yngwie308 there.
I definitely plan on my Gary Moore whatever it turns out be being published. I had sort of been discouraged lately with the lack of solid connections with what stands for Gary's mgmnt.
Lots to come, please read my 'interview' with the great Neil Carter, which was somewhat of a catalyst prior to Gary and Neil reuniting. I at the same time sent copies of all my GM boots and official releases to Neil. He used these with Gary during rehearsals for the last tour, re-learning the material of so long ago.

My interview appears to have been melded into part of Neil's Gary Moore section, that's cool, here's the original'

Much moore to come about Gary and again thanks for welcoming me here in that regard. It is making the looming anniversary on 2/6/12 moore bearable.. :) :)

This is one of my favorite pictures of Gary, circa 1984-5, compare it to the next photo from the past few years, the ravages of time...

How's it goin'. Just DL'd Run For Cover off Amazon as I realized I didn't actually have a copy! I'm a big fan of Neil Carter's contribution as I thought he was a great partner for Gary live. Voices were similar and double threat of guitars and keyboards. I wonder what happened to Gary Ferguson?. I really dug his drumming a lot on Run For Cover. I've had a run through of Waitin' For An Alibi (on cheezy backing track). I'll have to brush it off and post it.

Great stuff, thanks AP  I love this thread
He is sorely missed..
I remember coming home one night very late, and turning on the tv, I had heard of Gary, but not seen him play, he came out and did "End of the world" live (and flawlessly) and I was dumbstruck..
To me, it blew away any solo guitar work I had ever heard. The guy was in total control, and got tones out of that strat I did not know they were capable of. The thing that really hit me was the pure emotion he played with. I had only been playing awhile at that time, but I knew hands down that was the coolest thing I'd ever seen done on guitar at that time

He was underated as a guitar player and as a person...not near enough recognition...from a few posts back , i guess some didnt care for his SLO tone, but me, and a lot of my students in my area, that was thier fav. gary moore tone, albeit for the corridors thru- wild frontiers period...i love it all though cause the guy just plays with so much fire and emotion...underated for sure, kinda like Rik Emmitt of Triumph-great guitar players but never got the recognition they deserve..

The King Biscuit Flour Hour, some of Gary's finest early moments with the Greg Lake Band. Greg spotted very early on Gary's massive talent and he really was excited to work with a musician of Gary's caliber. Gary bought his iconic 1961 Fiesta Red Strat on a guitar shopping expedition with Gary. Gary was hoping that Greg would pass on the guitar which he did as it was in less that perfect condition. So he snagged it and the rest was history.. :) :)

This is an excellent DVD, by Stuart Bull who I have a lot of respect for, like Mike Caswell. Remember this is what Guthrie Govan was doing only a few years ago!!
It is available in the US in dollars, but can only be played on a computer, it is PAL regions only, a brilliant job:

From the last rock tour of the eighties, the "After The War" in 1989.
This Jackson necked white Strat head is actually a Charvel, Gary's earlier maple necked version with painted head stock, apparently the neck was so worn out, I can believe it. Gary was using his Dean Markley strings, light top/heavy bottom 0.10 through 0.52, in standard tuning with suspension bridge cable action, that's how he played, amazing!!!
This version features Gary's jazzy improvisation around the melodic first solo, he didn't do it always, but when he did...
