Gary was the first British guitarist to import PRS guitars for his own use, he had a white and red one. Never recorded or played live with them, but they are in two of his videos..

The King Biscuit Flour Hour, some of Gary's finest early moments with the Greg Lake Band. Greg spotted very early on Gary's massive talent and he really was excited to work with a musician of Gary's caliber. Gary bought his iconic 1961 Fiesta Red Strat on a guitar shopping expedition with Gary. Gary was hoping that Greg would pass on the guitar which he did as it was in less that perfect condition. So he snagged it and the rest was history..

This is an excellent DVD, by Stuart Bull who I have a lot of respect for, like Mike Caswell. Remember this is what Guthrie Govan was doing only a few years ago!!
It is available in the US in dollars, but can only be played on a computer, it is PAL regions only, a brilliant job:

From the last rock tour of the eighties, the "After The War" in 1989.
This Jackson necked white Strat head is actually a Charvel, Gary's earlier maple necked version with painted head stock, apparently the neck was so worn out, I can believe it. Gary was using his Dean Markley strings, light top/heavy bottom 0.10 through 0.52, in standard tuning with suspension bridge cable action, that's how he played, amazing!!!
This version features Gary's jazzy improvisation around the melodic first solo, he didn't do it always, but when he did...
