Gonna have to get used to seeing Gus there.

Who was on bass and drums? That wasnt borden was it?

Thats Tommy Clufetos on drums, he has played on John 5's solo albums and with Rob Zombie, not sure if thats Blasko on bass or who it is.

Yeah, I dunno obviously Gus G is pretty good but he hasn't done much for me yet playing Ozzy's stuff. As much as I would hate to say it Ozzy should just give it up and retire.

And my opinion on Zakks later work with Ozzy: from what Zakk says in Guitar World interviews most all of that stuff was written before he got involved with the recordings, so if the blueprint is already there with the producers or whoever playing I guess it would be hard to do much with it as Zakk likes to be involved from the start....So essentially its not much different than a Britney Spears project : other people write it , he shows up to sing it , therefore it's not too hard to see why he hasn't done anything worth a shit in years.

fuck
it wasn't THAT fucking bad.

it started out sterile..the whole band did.

i liked ozzy's choice of bandmates, save for ozzy himself...but, that's all already been talked about. i'm thankful he's still out there doing it i guess. also, in some ways, i wish most of the civilized world still didn't know who he was (thanks to the ozzbourne's i guess!!!)

i like this gus g though. i dig that he has his own persona. i mean guys, we're talking about filling zakk's shoes, not to mention jake's, and randys all in one throw of the fucking stone.

props to gus for giving it a go and doing his own thing with his own take on things. personally, i thought his tone was nice and thick and a bit on the velvety side with a touch of fuzz...but that's just to my ears.

i hope to see, a vid of Gus having a "good" tone night, er, one that's captured better than that one was. maybe there was terrible fucking noise from the stage wiring..maybe the lights were interfering and he had to put the gate on lock tight...the show must go on. surely, some of you can empathize with that causing a mediocre performance soundwise.

and i'd be willing to bet, that most of us haven't been in the position to defend our live tone vs some shitty mix from tv, and compounded by being reproduced for youtube criticism.

i'm curious, did any of you guys buffer it in under the 720p hi def settings....most times i've found that it improves the sound as well as the video. i have a good set of stereo speakers on hand, and certainly, it enhances the way i hear my stuff on computer.

i'd like to point out too, that the fucking guy didnt hit a bad note. not one that i heard. if i missed one, point it out on the timeline?
even during that keyboard flub at 2:59????WTF??? gus kept fucking wailing it.
the mix out front for a second bleeds through right at the crowd shot around 3:03 during the solo too...it sounded a little better to my ears.

beyond the beginning threshold noise gate fuck ups, overall i'd rate it a great performance from Gus. an indifferent one from ozzy, and a pumped one from the rest of the band.

i know NOTHING about him either. other than he's apparantly ozzie's new guitar player, so don't be all fast to think im running to the guy's defense. i'll go check him out for sure now though, i can tell you that!

I've never heard anybody play that intro right. Or even explain (to my satisfaction) how it was done.

It's basically open harmonics, and you do those bends by pulling the string behind the nut :) John Sykes used to do the same trick all the time back in Whitesnake, look on YouTube for his live solo during 'Crying In The Rain' back in 84-85 and he does it a lot!

Cool...

Ozzy Karaoke...

follow the bouncing ball Ozzy as it bounces over the lyrics on the screen...

:aww:

... and Gus G-whatevers tone sounds like ass... over-processed, sterile, compressed, ass to be specific.

Geez. It wasn't that bad. Yes, his tone was horrid, but it was kinda nice to hear an Ozzy song without 5,000 pinch harmonics. I've never really gotten over Jake leaving the band anyway, been trying to get used to Zakk since 1988. He did write some killer tunes though, gotta give him that.

Jake was great. I miss his playing. Even when Badlands came out, loved his guitar work.

Its like he has a noisegate is in signal chain set really high thats cutting his notes off too short.

I tried to watch it a second time to give it a chance. You know, maybe I made a snap judgement. Nope. It was worse the second time.

Well....

I tell you... I enjoyed the performance. Ozzy Was pretty good. I know some people up above critized him and all... But you know what. I saw him at Madison Square Garden in 1978 when Van Halen
Opened for Black Sabbath, and HE SUCKED! He could not even sing... Voice breaking up, and everything. So in light of that and his age.. I give him a A-

Now for the Guitar...

Well... Nick's Friend Mike's - Cousin played pretty well... BUT IMHO

*HE NEEDS TO RE-AMP IMMEDIATELY!!!

He sounded Really FLAT & DULL, and yes the leads were worse... The guitar just didn't sing. I mean almost Any of the Top Amps that we have would KILL his sound...

I would have loved to hear that same song with him playing through my CCV, or Marshall HG Jose, or Through my Herbert for that matter...

So Come on Mark Cameron, Fortin, Friedman, Bogner Call This guy up, and Ease His Pain!

Roid RAGE

Sounded like they were using auto-tune on his vocals. I haven't heard any clips yet Gus G with Ozzy yet that I like either. Maybe's he great in Firewind (not my taste) but every clip his sound has been the same. Overly saturated and compressed, too fizzy. He can shred but has no soul to his bends or vibrato. All IMO of course.

It's funny, The Ultimate SIn has become one of my favorite, if not my favorite Ozzy Album. I thought it was just OK for years but after Randy burnout it's got some really creative rhythm voicings and leads. The rhythm tone is just OK but I really like the songs and what Jake plays on that record. Love the intro harmonics n Fool Like You, hell, all of it really.

It was pretty cool. Ozzy sounded good I thought. Though everyone felt somewhat out of pocket, not sure what the deal was, Ozzy was on top the whole tune. Those guitars amps gotta go. It was good to see Ozzy singing well and looking good.

Lets be honest with each other. If you actually expect Ozzy, at his age and mental capacity, to be able to go up on stage and sing lyrics to new and old songs while actually hitting the right notes and staying in key, then you are an idiot.

2 things I noticed. Poor ass sustain, that's shameful at a gig that size  AND how the hell are you gonna do a Jake song and not bring your Floyd? :gethim: There are my complaints, Ozzy wasn't that great but I didn't expect him to be. I did, however, expect the guitar tone to be better

I guess you are not familiar with Jake's playing? He never used a Floyd.

that's pure lip synching
I guess the guitar amp was going straight to the PA
no way that crap was mic'ed

I thought the band and sound were fine..

I just think that's one of the worst Ozzy tunes ever...please retire it!

Ozzy was actually a litte better on this one than on some of the other recent performances I've seen of him.

I actually like Gus with Firewind, but he just doesn't have that same... I dunno... that same "spark" or whatever you want to call it that guys like Randy, Jake and Zakk (on his earlier records, at least) had right out of the gate playing with Ozzy. I've seen a few clips of Gus with Ozzy from different appearances, too, and I'm not a fan at all of his live tone, although I will admit it's better than the last few clips I saw of Zakk with Ozzy where his tone was a buzzy, chorus-drowned MESS.

As for "Let Me Hear You Scream", pretty much just a big dose of "meh" for me, and I love Ozzy. I'll still probably buy the record, though.

Good call on the Lynch-ism, Mark, I caught that as well, as long as it took me to learn them, I'd recognize those licks anywhere!

I don't get the hopes for a "new direction" with Gus G. He didn't write a note for the new album, just cut the solos. My guess is he never gets the chance to write anything before he's gone.
