Eq pedals are GREAT if you know how to use them. Parametric rules all. I prefer a parametric upfront if only one available, if not on in front AND one in loop. Complete tone and voice shaping.

Agreed.

The problem is few really know how to use parametric eqs. Graphics are so much easier. Once you understand truly how the Q rate works, and how to apply that info, parametrics become a better tool for specific tone shaping needs. Graphics are sledgehammers compared to the parametrics pick axe.

Thanks! Don't get me wrong, a graphic EQ is a super useful tool and I feel that every guitarist should have one. I always keep my Dano mini F&S around and it has served many purposes.

I have a Danelectro Fish and Chips EQ pedal as well. Recently I've been using it to reduce the signal going into my cranked Marshall, sort of like rolling down the guitar's volume pedal. It sounds good but I can hear a little white noise when I lower all the sliders a bit.

How do I get around that without using a noise gate?

Yeah it's slightly noisy, but not enough to bother me. I think the only solution is get a better built eq, these things are cheap.

I ended up getting an old Boss PQ-50 half rack unit, works great!

-I'm from the the old school of thought-

-if ya need more than a graphic EQ, .... you have bigger problems than an EQ can remedy-

-just saying-
