Just found this on youtube and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Sorry if its been posted already.

IMO probably 2 of the most technically inclined guitarists around.

Should be entitled ' Gilbert gives Govan a guitar lesson '.. Paul's freedom and musicality never ceases to astound me.
Guthrie seems to forget the music part too often in my view

It's always humbling to see such giants show no ego whatsoever.
Awesome.

Lol. Okay...

I think most people would agree that Guthrie is a far more versatile and interesting guitarist than PG (and I like PG a lot).

Pretty evenly matched actually.. Govan is definitely not light years ahead by any stretch as a lot of his nut huggers would probably believe. I'd say these guys are dead even with the picking edge going to Paul as well as the groove feeling. What surprised me most was how thin and trebly Govan's sound was. Generally that's Paul's thing but sounds like he's beefed things up! Advantage Paul in the tone department.

I agree on the versatility. They are both awesome. Guthrie in person will make your jaw drop with his playing. Mr. Gilbert's tone has improved on this video.

Both great, I prefer GG. Cutting tone, awesome versatility

I'm actually surprised people are comparing the two players. :aww:

This video is a gift to us, plain and simple.

Totally agree. It was all incredible and a joy to watch/listen to...

Loved the vid but at the end all I could think of was "Ohhhhhhhh poor Tony". Yeah he can play but can you imagine going on after those two??????

Silly goose, MUSIC IS A CONTEST!!!!

:P

Fun to watch, definitely. It'd be cool to see PG get into a band situation again, something outside what folks normally expect from him.

paul is like the only gtr player in rock that can share a stage and trade off with guthrie and actually enjoy when the guth starts heating up! most of the others i've seen in that scenario end up looking like slackjawed skeletons standing against a nuclear blast.

i really liked paul's tone there too. cool!

Two of my fav players and they both played incredible but I just couldn't stand Guthrie's trebly dirty tone in this video... I'm surprised that PG's tone has improved tons! smooth and clear!

And yet another thread where 2 greats are having fun and half of you have to turn it into a guitar contest.

Two awesome guitarists cutting up and looking like they were having a blast. Works for me. I do like Paul's new meatier tone.
