I wanted to make a comparison of the Victory Super Kraken VX100 and the Peavey Invective 120 for a little while so I finally did it. The reason I wanted to compare these amps is because:

- They're both high-gain modern metal amps
- They're both signature amps
- They're both (loosely) based on the og 5150
- They're both 100+ watt amps
- etc.

The VX100 is Rabea Massaad's signature amp and the Invective 120 is Misha Mansoor's signature amp, but I'm sure we all know that already :). Both are quite versatile amps with clean and crunch channels but I just wanted to focus on the high gain tones. What's also cool is that both amps have a boost function, so I also wanted to compare how that affects the sound with both amps. In the end I think they both sound great but I'd be curious to know which one wins here and why?

Check it out:

IMO the Peavey, because of the added features.
There is a lot of stuff available on the back of that amp that's controlled by the huge foot switch.
They both sound great, but I have lots of amps that sound great.

Yeah, it really is a very versatile amp. I love all the features!

I strongly dislike the 9 user midi presets on the Peavey. Should've been 128. Something like the Helix could manage that, however. This is not a fair comparison due to the different speakers, I much prefer the v30s. Cool vid nevertheless, as always. I did not realize the Krak was loosely based on the fiddy.

Ive owned both and preferred the Kraken. The Invective I thought was overly gained and compressed. Kraken was a nice versatile amp in a small package for 100w. Although it doesn't have a BIG low-end like some other 100 waters its pretty focused in the mids but not overly honky.

Owned both and honestly didn't care for either. If I remember correctly the kraken was a little more mid focused while the invective was heavily compressed.

Isn't there some trick to getting the Invective to sound the best that has to do with the Master boost on the back? I've always wanted to try one but seem to hear too many not so positive reviews on it.

Me too. The Kraken desperately needs a presence control and really needs some volume to sound good. I liked the Invective better as an overall package but actually preferred my EVH 50w to it. Chimier cleans and a better 2nd channel.

I love your video production and playing and everything, but i really dont like the tone of these amps. The whole modern 5150/boost/sm57 thing is super overdone and I kind of hate it, tonewise. But you can't please everyone? Me, in this case.

I DO think you should have played both through the same cabinet, though.

Besides that, good job playing, and great production skills

I’ve always thought the Victory is ugly as well . Idk . She don’t look right next to other amps
The designer in chief of the Victory should have
taken the V on the left front of the amp and
applied a sorta’ Mad Magazine image of a vagina
cascading and bubbling along the edges of the
V.
Ya feel me?
F-it, Victory for the win fellas’.

That would rule lol

Yeah, the master boost function affects the sound a bit. I don't think it's essential personally but I do have it enabled here.
