Uh....how come i didnt know these rocked before. Was I such a terrible player that I thought thy sucked back in 1987? these are cool amps. It even has the zener trick,,,,1987 zener trick in something other than a jose marshall ???? cool. no bias pot though....sucks

The VTM was based off of Brian Jay's Jose modded Marshall. This was James Brown's first project with Peavey. It does sound cool if you set those mini switched a certain way.

Sounds better with the Kentucky Fried Death Mod though

Yea, it's definitely a cool amp. I added a clean channel to mine but kind of want to mod it more...

The only thing that blows it I guess is the way they set up the effects loop. they dump a ton of great tone right there. I didnt know these could sound this good. they label the zener trick "comp" I guess it is technically compression, clipping the tops and bottoms like that..

It absolutely does. Even stock the VTM is a really cool amp. I have a stock VTM 60 and it's fun to play. Loud as heck too. Only dip switch I use is gain 2. To my ears the gain knob is cool up to 6. After that it just gets kind of muddy. It likes a boost pedal too. Kentucky Fried Death Mod is a beast and I still love it.

I haven't noticed any tone suckage from the effects loop. I just started playing with it and I only have a TC Flashback running through it.

Oh man I miss my VTM 60. I got it on trade for an MXR Carbon Copy and EH Holy Grail. Best trade ever!!!

They are killer amps and dirt cheap too, I actually should get one sometime soon. They are just ugly is all but i suppose a different headshell would fix that or I could not be so vein :D

I didn't mind the ugly too much. But now it looks better and is about 15 pounds lighter.

That looks awesome!

FJA souped up a VTM60 for me and it was a mean machine. Lots of potential in this cheap as hell head.

man I've had off and on gas for these heads for quite a while.
I need to just pick one up to try out and get it out of my system!

theyre easy to mod too. maybe I could put together a sheet of rec mods/changes like the P.I. follows a different schem. I changed it to marshall spec (pretty much the standard PI) the other parts of the amp are super easy to get at and work on. They respond well to the PPIMV once you change the PI. Way less tub and more grind now. The mod switches, two of them add various bypass caps for more gain etc but one has a resistor in front of it minimizing its effect. Bypassed that. Actually upped one cathode resistor to more like a 2204 preamp then when the bypass cap is switched in its tighter and more modern.

No kidding, that amp rips!

I wouldn't mind playing around with a VTM myself, i have some pretty cool ideas which would work well in those amps.
