Pardon me for kicking the old-dog on this Monday. But, A lot of times...like when you wake up with a tune in your head, so you immediately have to go listen to THAT tune?? well today, for whatever reason, I wake up to the thoughts a the Peavey WG.... so of course now i WANT (another) one!

1. So, the "STANDARD" PV WG was USA made, archtop, full binding, etc... typically with a bithchin maple flame or quilt top (depending on year of manuf). Seems i had read that some of the goldtops were intended to be standards but the maple top didn't meet the "Standards Specs", so they painted it gold. Is this accurate?

2. The "SPECIAL" was USA made, same basic specs as the archtop, except the aforementioned "archtop". The special is flat top, akin to the later to come EBMM, but very different i understand... same pups, but no maple top, solid basswood body, same high-end brdige, tuners etc.?

there is/was a webpage a guy had with tons of info....everything Wolfgangs... can't seem to recollect the address...?

There are also flame-top USA Specials, but most Specials you see with the tops are asian and something else entirely.

The USA Specials were some mean fuckers. I loved mine, kinda miss it.

It's a shame he went to fender.

This might be the page you're thinking of.

How do the Peavey HP series compare to the Wolfgangs? I see HP’s all the time for pretty cheap. Is the vibe the same?

From what I can gather, the arch top Wolfgangs are very similar with the HP. So much so, they're supposed to be as identical in specs as possible w/o risk of lawsuit from Ed. The bridge on the hp is a floater, and the headstock is different...but vibe, tone, playability, etc are all suppose to be there.

Anybody want to set me straight, do it as I've been known to Be wrong on occasion.

Yea no kidding...honestly hadn't rembered those until sutepaj mentioned it. They turn up used quite often and are typically much less costly than the Wolfs. Even the newer HP2's are less costly than the wolfs. Can't speak to the real differences, if any, between the Hps and the HP2 other than manuf date
