Recommend me a pedal that adds grind to an amp. Splawn 100 watt quickrod. Already have a klon type od. Sd1. JHS bonsai. Mxr eq. Standard tuning.

Rat is pretty Rad

Can be set to just add pick articulation too,, which is nice cuz it can be a battle balancing beefy humbuckers with boosted amps.

DoD 250 and Timmy deserve mention here too

I used to have a Fortin Grind mod in one of my Neural DSP plugins. If it sounds as good as the emulation, a great pedal to boost your amp for that grinding kind of distortion.

Horizon Devices Precision Drive is great for that. And it has a nice noise gate as a bonus.

I've gotten a pretty good sizzle from and OCD with the right settings.

Depends on what you mean by grind.

Do you mean high end sizzle?

Do you mean "kerrang" high midrange typically associated with marshall style stuff?

Do you just mean more gain?

I used a grind pedal for years, and they still do the trick, although i use a parametrric now with a hard low cut, and 2db bump at 1000hz. I can boost the level if i need more gain, but i really dont.

On a Rat turn your distortion knob to 7-9 o'clock.

Since you have an SD-1, on a Boss SD-1 turn your drive to 7-9 o'clock, this is usually where Jake E Lee turned his drive level on his OD-1's and Sd-1's, it will add the grind/grit to the tone.

The treble booster can also add some crunchy/grit that one might define as grind, and it might work great with the Splawn since the splawn tone is so thick.

Another pedal is the Maxon SD-9 Pro+ lets you select how you drive the mids and highs separately. The drive knob in the Maxon like the SD-1 will add some dirt/grind /grit to the tone but with the added adjustable mids and highs attack sets this pedal apart IMHO. I love mine with my Splawn modded Marshall.:2thumbsup:

When someone says grind I think of rocks in a parking lot, bassy chew.

Duncan 805 for a natural sounding grinding OD with killer tone shaping, best boost I've owned after many years and many boosts/overdrives.

Or Fortin TS9 or 808 if you want a more modern OD with a bit more clank, they're only clanky if you set them that way.
