I got the D'addario XPND Mic Stand today, and I'm going to mount it on my pedalboard today. I looked around, and it seemed to be the best option for a pedalboard mount for a mic stand out right now. First thoughts are that it's stout plastic and the quick release seems to work well. Not sure how long it will hold up, but it will set up quick enough. The only thing I'm worried about is the angle of the base is set. I really hope that it points straight up once it's mounted. We'll see when I get it set up at rehearsal tonight.

Anyone else use one? Or are you guys just putting a tripod right next to the board? I did the tripod forever, but the front of my board is too busy for the leg. Plus, my last gig had a tight stage, and I didn't have the room for my board and the stand. So, I bought the XPND Pedalboard Mic Stand Adapter and hope for the best.

Oh, and all my internet searches say nobody has put one of these on a Pedaltrain yet. I'm probably the first, so hello to all the non Rig-Talk people in the future looking this up. I'll let you know how it works in a few posts.

I don't do a board but I have always had a preference for a good Atlas round base mic ms10 stand over any of the dumb tripods that are everywhere now. The tripods tip almost as easily and take up 3x the floor space or more in reality. Plus they are junk. Last Atlas round base I had rode back and forth to gigs in my truck until the pipe running into the base gave way at the top of the threads, which is about 10x longer than any tripod I've ever had. My bro has the K&M tripods and though they seem a little more robust I still don't think they are a forever tripod by any stretch.

To me that pedal board mounted mic stand means once it's toast it's quite a bit of dough for another and tbh has a pretty cheap looking plastic cam lock...

I need to get a good quality round stand with boom arm for that reason... it's always a struggle trying to get the mic in the right spot while having the pedalboard where I want it.... without having the tripod fall off the edge of the stage.

Yeah, but parking your pedalboard next to a round base stand is worse because you can't get the stand close enough. By that point, you boom it over too far and it becomes unstable. That's where the tripod stands rule because you can put it right next to your board and get it in the right spot. You just gotta have the legal sticking out all over the place. Hopefully this pedalboard attachment is the secret sauce to getting the mic in the right spot.

Maybe we all should just switch to 'NSYNC style headsets... death to the mic stand.

I got it mounted, but it isn't sitting level. This was my biggest worry. It's not off by much, but I'm going to have to shim it to get it level. Once it's level, I'll get it in position better, but it's really close right now. It's just up all the way to reach my tall ass face.

I always used a tripod against the back right corner of my board, it was a pain in the ass though. I had rearrange my board layout so my left foot could get to the couple of pedals I actually needed while I was at the mic.

This is the best photo I have.

So far in getting the XPND Mic Stand mount on my Pedaltrain Classic 3 was tricky. The angle isn't right, so I'm going to shim it to where the stand is level (or even forward a degree). Right now it points back a few degrees, and I have ot all the way up and forward to get it where I want it. Other than that, it's almost perfect.

My other big issue is the traditional length of the mic stand. I would so much rather it break down into smaller pieces so that it could fit in my pedalboard case. Even when I put it diagonally across the top of the board, it's like an inch or so too long. All of my minor grievances are adding up.

I remain committed though. I'll get it figured out.

I always used a tripod base, boom mic stand, with the two legs facing me, the board would sit between the two legs.

I never had large boards, I had a few pedals on the ground before going to rack rigs; back in the day it was a MIDI controller for patch changes:

my final consolidated ADA rack before the sell-off still had the MIDI controller as you can see:

I've been buying additional cables, mic clips/stands to mic up my studio and man, the costs add up. We never really think of this when we get GAS and buy all this cool gear.

I bid on a lot of stands from a studio that closed and won some good ones, and it's incredible how much difference it makes. I wouldn't spend $100+ on a stand, but now that I have used them, I get it. Using vocal mic stands for drum overheads blows, and having the huge boom stands that will go up 15 feet and over 10 with a heavy LDC on the end is a godsend. The mics are right where I need them, and the stands are out of the way.

The other one is right angle XLR cables. I wish these were everywhere. For drums, they are awesome. I will make more.

Great point on right angle XLR cables.. so true having that protuding cable over my floor toms.
