that arc furnace is something special boys. i've been through a billion tube screamers to try and get that tone.
and the vertex modded plexitone is already sweet too...really helped address some odds and ends with the stock pedal.

picked up a used akai headrush II at GC but that one might be going back. i wanted a decent dedicated looper with nice delay sounds as well but it aint cuttin it..

you lose me as it's starts getting toward stones satisfaction meets inna Gadda davida dry trebly wheezing chihuahua with allergies which is how a bulk of youtubers set them and how the few I've tried sounded to me
Again we are in agreement and like anything else, theres the good, the bad and the ugly. I like it just as you do and never had any time for the undefined wooliness that some people seem to dig. Id like to add the Analogman sun face to the fuzzes that I mentioned earlier but have no experience with the Sun Lion..

Fuzz is an odd one for me. A friend of mine custom-built me a fuzz pedal, as I wanted a distortion sound that was completely unlike anything I could get from my Mesa/Boogie MarkIV and the tone control & pickup settings on my guitar. It's just an occasional thing where I'll want a really spitty, sputtering, odd-sounding texture. It sounds cool on high notes but it completely bottoms out if you try to bash out a power chord riff.

I like how Dave Gilmour uses a fuzz, but with all the customisations by Pete Cornish and the buffers etc;, his almost sounds like an amp. I think the high headroom Hiwatt helps with that though.
When others try to emulate Gilmour they just get this cloudy, anaemic, fuzzy woolly sound.

sounds like you need a date with "the trucker"

(submitted by mentoneman » Sun Mar 09, 2008 3:04 pm under "worst pedal ever" thread)

no contest.

take heed.

the trucker distortion/fuzz pedal.

olive green ala military ammo case, and covered in rust spots.

i'm pretty sure it was a home made job..."scored" it at a yard sale in hawaii in the 80's for 10 bucks? awesome find huh! oh if i had only known. that accursed contraption belonged in a cement sarcophagus blessed by a legion of priests and covered in a frozen lake of holy water.

if you could transform the word "terrible" into a sound, you'd be a at the prenatal tip of the iceberg with this pedal. it eliminated anything to do with music from the sound of my guitar and amplifier. added tremendous noise, chopped out all the humane frequencies, and robbed you of any possible sustain.

tinfoil tuba filled with gravel? too pleasing.

cross between an octogenerian's emphysemic coughing spasm and a frightened sheep bleating under the duress of an amorous farm hand.

using it was akin to eating something so very hellish tasting, yet revisiting it over and over just to confirm how bad it tastes...every setting i tried was disgusting.

oh and then to add icing to that steaming pie,
it intermittently threw off a mindnumbing thunderbolt of sound that probably made the undead plug their ears while chewing through the bottom of their coffins.

the first time i stumbled on to that *special* feature i was treated in an instant to a violent unwaivering parade of pain, like frankenstein at the moment of birth.
God almost punched the earth but Jesus caught him at the elbow.

i was so startled i lunged backwards and fell on the ground kicking and yelling, trying to escape the nightmare.

in the chaos i blew up the 15 " bass speaker in my first amp, a solid state peavey TKO 80 combo. i never unplugged anything faster in my life. i think i unconsciously ran with this thing in my hand like a live grenade out the back door, and flung it over the neighbor's fence with all of my heart and soul. my rotator cuff has clicked ever since.

beware of the trucker, friend. it's out there somewhere..."

I just had friends come from Waikiki, got back 2 days ago, they were there for 10... Said it was great. I don't dig all the peeps, I prefer low key, hence my love for Kauai.

Hookipa on Maui's got it going on too man, but it can get gnarly pretty fast. Last year, best day was at Polihale - perfect barrels, no rip, no sharks, 4 foot Hawaiian... Perfect.

Pedals? I'm just ordering a Retro-Sonic Phaser to go with my MXR 4 button Flanger. Don't know how it'll sound till I get it and dig in...

Mahalos,
Mo

I'd dig the retrosonic chorus as the ce-1 is one of the pedals I had and miss
the choralflange and jaques meisterstinger? also sound great

the pedals still hot on my radar are the el cap and vertex Wah

El Cap's got a huge following... Believe it or not, I've never heard of the Vertex wah. Since having my Clyde Deluxe, I just never look at other wahs any more.

Rock Quarry on the northshore of K is da bomb on the right swell :D

i think el cap is my next buy after i get rid of some stuff

the flashback is awesome and i love the ep-3 toneprint, but the el cap has a bit more control over the modulation/decay that makes it almost impossible for me to tell that it's not my old roland re-150 tape echo sonically. the initial FEEL of the attack is the part that's not as sweet as the roland or the flashback for that matter, but i have a badgerplex pre that should take care of that issue.

rockpiles, between kaisers and ala moana bowls, was my spot in my younger days. long reefy left that i knew like the back of my hand. i can claim being a local there, sandy's shorebreak when jack the ripper and mike stewart were kings, and aliso beach here in cali, as a skimboarder, now in my wave riding twilight years. when i know it's got potential to be perfect i bring my thruster and sponge, but only surfed once last year and zero this summer. sponged and bodysurfed some sick shorebreak though!

here's me 2 years ago taking off on a wedge spring day

Bro, I was just telling Pat how Im going to try and make the time to pack up Xander and get out to Waikiki. We were also talking about the food and that time you picked us at NAMM and had Teri beef bowls waiting for us. There are places that claim to put out the goods but fall a little short. Whereever you got that stuff took me back to the Islands with one bite. I dont think I said a word until I was done, that stuff was off the chains and mad authentic!!!

Miss ya kid, hope that the Floyd Paul is doin right by ya, I know that youre doin right by her..

Nice pics. I have very few of me doing what I love, my wife is usually out with me, so we don't take pics of each other - we're not into that 'waterproof camera and board-mount water cam business... Here's one of me (left) waiting for my ride North Shore Kauai.... Always a beauty day man.

I came in here expecting to see pedalboards and cable runs. Instead, I see half naked men and greasy burgers. I'm OUT! :D

EDIT: Those greasy burgers have me thinking......LUNCHTIME!

I can't talk too long without the subject turning to food and surf--true hawaiian style!

I'm selling a few pedals in the emporium and in the spirit of this thread and the rigtalk braddahood if you see anything you like type "aloha" on the PM topic and knock $20 off the price of anything you see--I just like the thought of my pm box full of aloha :D
