I have the rg16 n mastermind. Works flawless. I just thought to try out gmaj2. But I'm so in tune to my pedals I instantly hear the difference. I wanted to try harmonized maybe I'll pick up that digitech harmonizer pedal n go back to my couple pedals. Never tried that digitech red pedal harmonizer. Any good?
I A/B'd the Digi Harmony man and the Boss PS-6 harmonist and went with the boss, great harmonies as well as an awesome D tune feature as well as the S bend feature; a very feature packed pedal for its size. Though now, Im using my GSP for Harmony so the Boss is for sale if youre interested.

I'm fussy about modulation effects so like having particular pedals for those things, as I can put them in different configurations (which often changes weekly).
I don't like multi-effects in digital rack units, although the Digitech GSP1101 has crossed my mind a few times. Plus I think it's a band-aid to have to use a mixer to reduce tone suck when using digital rack units, to "preserve the core tone".

Analogue/higher-end rack units are too big for using just for one effect, at least I think so. Some will argue that it's the quality of said effect that matters, which is rational, but at the end of the day I'd rather have said unit at my feet where I can control it whenever I want.

What other multi fx are there like gmaj2 n gsp1101.

For rack based multifx you can always use stuff by Rocktron. I have never used them personally, but they can usually be found for cheap used and sound good from what I have heard from everyone on here.

Oh man, im sure this thread could go into 2015! Anyways, my 2 pennies,
I feel there's almost no rules these days as to what you can do-like others said, it all depends on what you want out of your rig and what you want to do w/it.Pull up a diagram of almost every single professional touring musicians's rig and you'll more than not, find a combination of rack gear and pedals. All mixed in together-one way or another....
I like a combination of both, for instance: Im forever in love w/ 2290 for amazing chorus and delays.I dig the noise reduction in rack gear,Love the Eventide H-7600,etc too...but Im always diggin the overdrive of pedals like, the wampler paisley drive, xotic pedals, octavers, phasers, and wah pedals....and nowadays youve got all the killer rack interfaces and pedal loopers to pull this off quite easily!

Never used the lexy, but when I dont wanna wheel out the 4ftx 3ft pedalboard w/the acxessfx1, I simply use my old TC 0144, or Rockman midi pedal...theyre easy and simple..,but I know what youre saying; the lexy board & rack work in tandem w/ each other real well.

I think it really depends on what you need out of the gear. If we are talking full gig setup, I would say running both is essential.

The way I see it-- It isn't a this vs that scenario. Rather-- It's a more comprehensive approach. (Which tool/tools are called for and not only using them, but knowing how to use (Signal Route, Program, Engineer & Produce) them effectively.

Mixing and matching from ALL of the Above-- If/When it's the right call-- AND having my preferred gear for any scenario, is a place I've worked long and hard to get to, and I LIKE IT.

The BEST gear in the world doesn't guarantee GREAT results-- Just the potential for a range of Sounds, Effects, Control, and Options.

Anyone use lexicon mpxg2 w Lexy foot board?

I did. Still have the MPXG2, and still love it. I tried my hardest to replace it with something more modern, but it won out in a direct tone comparison against several other processors, including the GSP1101. Beat he pants off of the line 6 X3 live, destroyed the rocktron prophesy. The only thing that was close was the RP1000, but that didn't have MIDI, so bye bye. I really liked the MPXR1, but I moved away from it for something that had preset names on the floor. If you can live without that, it's an extremely powerful MIDI controller. And it's got relay switching on it, which makes it even that much cooler.

FWIW, I've got mine set up kind of like a virtual pedalboard, primarily for effects out front of the amp. I've even got a dedicated "wah" controller with toe switch hooked up to it so I can turn the internal wah program (Wah 2 sounds the best for me) on and off like a normal wah pedal.

For me, and probably me alone:

Tried the rack approach didnt like it so went back to a few nice pedals. I like 2 things about going the pedal route on the floor:

1. If I dont like the sound of something when playing live, I reach down and turn a knob rather then navigate through menus.
2. I have insatiable GAS and switching pedals in an out all the time has become a hobby and I'm buying 1 a week at the moment so I can mix and match and being on the floor the blue, red and green LED's look cool ;)

both

that was with the peacemaker head and the dry amp in a w/d setup

what's interesting is even with my little super champ xd the tone is huge and the cleans are as good as i've ever had from any rig.
