I always pay fedex to pack it for me. It's an extra $30-40 but if there is an issue they will 100% cover it. It's worth the peace of mind. I've been to a FedEx warehouse before, the sheer volume of packages and the stress they're put through, it's always luck of the draw no matter how well you pack it. I've seen stuff shipped on ATA flight cases be completely destroyed. It happens. Best bet is to make sure they are responsible for the packing so your insurance claim goes through without questions.
