I hate to post this, as I like his tools and have gotten info from his videos in the past, but it's a warning as of current business practices for you guys in case you're looking for tools.

A couple years ago, I bought a bunch of tools from Skyscraper Guitars. I got his neck caul to support the neck, a long and short sanding beam with some paper strips, a Gibson/Fender notched straight edge, and a fret rocker/string height action gauge. They're great tools, they feel quality and sturdy, and have a nice orange finish on them.

On the 16th, I paid ($18 shipping? Really?) for a PRS notched straight edge, as it'd work on my new PRS guitars, as well as my Warriors that use a 25" scale. It'll even do the other PRS scale in case I get a McCarty 594 or something. Anyways, 5 days later it said it hadn't shipped yet so I contacted him through the site's contact form to see if their was an issue with the payment. The next day I got an automated email saying it had shipped, but still no contact from Greg. Well, it was supposed to be here on the 26th, but the local UPS office lost it. On the 30th, so 4 mornings that it could have been loaded on the truck to come to my house, I contact Greg/Skyscraper again through the site's contact form saying he'd probably need to file a missing package claim so he/I could get the money back so he could ship another one out to me. I have yet to hear back on that one. So the next day I file a missing package claim and in about 36 hours I get an update on the claim saying UPS hasn't been provided documentation on the package, so Greg hadn't bothered to read or respond to UPS emailing him directly.

After a couple of days, I find an actual email address on their site to go to the Orders department and email him again saying UPS still hasn't heard from him and he needs to reply to them with the proper information so they can give him/me the money back because I need another one sent out because I have been needing the tool. Guess what? Still haven't heard back on that one, though it was yesterday. Anyways, UPS found my package. It was sent to Atlanta, about 2 hours south. No scans showing it had been sent there, but they found it and got it back up here to Chattanooga and it arrived about 30 minutes ago.

The box is beat up/bent in some places, but that was just an outer shipping box. Contained inside was the notched straight edge in its storage box with a few layers of what I would consider slightly stronger than crepe paper wrapped around it. It was just flopping around in the box with barely any padding. That's a great way to pack up a precision tool to prevent it from being dinged up or damaged.

So, in summation, I sent 3 emails to Greg at Skyscraper Guitars about this, and UPS sent him at least 1 asking for information for a claim, and no one has heard from him. The only time I've gotten worse customer service was when I ordered a simple volume knob on Reverb and the shop just refused to send it or reply, so Reverb gave me my money back.

I've emailed Greg in the past and gotten responses within a day or two but I don't know what his deal is now. I ordered the part, and due to his negligence, and UPS losing it for several days, I just got a product that was in stock that I paid for 19 days ago. I guess I'll be shopping somewhere else for future guitar tools.

Passing of the guard with the luthier thing. Just not a real profitable way to make a living anymore.

$18 for UPS isn't that unusual these days.
Second, the communication sucks, but it sounds like UPS dropped the ball, but at least you got your order.

UPS dropping the ball is one thing, but an absolute ghost town on communication to get info from him or get him to provide claim information is solely on Skyscraper. It was a perfect storm of 2 companies dropping the ball. UPS does hundreds of thousands of packages a day, he does not.

Yeah, no communication is a big no-go for me. Wouldn't be doing business with them again.
Stewmac has great Customer Service, but their prices are ridiculous, and so is their shipping.

I just shipped a chorus pedal for repairs. $16.98 USPS Priority mail.
Last time it was about $8 bucks.
