I remember reading a recent article about someone who bought... I think, a painting... from a private owner. I think it was the widow of husband who owned the painting. She was asking like $10,000 or something for it and was in a hurry to sell because she was cleaning out the estate. The buyer knew the painting's real value and gladly paid the $10,000 (or whatever the price was). Then he turned around, had the painting properly restored and appraised for like... millions. And people in the comments of the article were sooooooo angry at this guy. Called him a scumbag and a jerk and an a-hole for know what he was buying and "taking advantage" of the seller. I completely disagree. I think that's just being a smart, informed buyer. Happens all the time.
Someone buys a painting or a chair or a watch or a guitar or a vase or a cabinet or a table at a thrift store or tag sale, etc. Then gets lucky and discovers it's worth a lot more. Everybody cheers. Yay! Good job! But when a buyer is informed and knows what he's dealing with, it makes him a bad guy lol. It's silly.
i can kind of relate.. my father was a DJ going back to the mid 60s, i grew up with basically a record store in my basement, and in the collection was all sorts of radio only releases for the radio stations from the beatles, elvis.. you name it. records im sure had to be worth some good money. when my parents got divorced, unbeknownst to me my mom paid someone when i was away to come take the records because she knew i would not let that happen under any circumstance. are those people the assholes for getting paid to take a treasure chest of records?? no, my mom is
