I've got 3 or 4 things I'm looking for, and Reverb sellers have absolutely reached bat-shit crazy, delusional proportions. I know we've all touched on it, but man, its really spiked in the past week or so. No need to lay out examples, but I can say, all 4 items on my wish list are grossly over-priced, and now Florida's been added to the tax liability July 1. Fuck. You're better off buying new in some cases, but AMS, Zzounds, Sweetwater, are all hitting you with tax now too, you're getting bent over going that way too.

I’m glad I don’t GAS for anymore big ticket items.

Reverb has so many bloat fees that it’s cheaper to use PayPal through eBay than to sell on reverb with or without PayPal. I deleted my reverb account when they were hacked but don’t allow you to remove your own CC info from your profile. Fuck’em.

I use Facebook marketplace, Craigslist, forums, and stick to PayPal gift or meeting in person with cash when I can at all costs.

I’ll owe taxes on my Bogner and my Metroplex next year, that’s it and thank god - combined it will be $400 or so. So stupid.

I have bought and sold lots of stuff over the past 1.5 years but I am pretty much going to sit out until things come back to a more normal level. Which will be a while but I am set for now anyway.

I absolutely agree. Reverb used to be great back in the day (2015-2018) but after they started taxing everything and increased their fees it's just not worth it anymore. Thanks for the eBay tip. I checked their selling fees and it's only 3.5% vs Reverb's 7.7%.

I'm just talking shit. If those are facts I applaud the capitalist system before anything else out there. Everyone doesn't get a trophy in my book.
I believe that was the figure Etsy paid out.

What's really messed up, is when you list something, they suggest you piss away another 4.5% in bumps. Greedy fucks.

Be smart, there's a way around their game. I do it all the time.

eBay would be 6.5%. the Reverb amount is all in, the eBay number doesn't include the PayPal fee which you have to pay after.

I'd be ok with the extra Reverb fees because of the seller protection, but their customer service went AWOL after the Etsy purchase. Not sure if anything has changed on that front in the past few months, but I had two issues in the past 18 months and literally couldn't get a hold of anyone. Thankfully was able to work them out on my own.

To be fair, collecting taxes is not Reverb’s idea or fault. It’s govt laws and regulations forced upon them. I’m sure Reverb hates being tax collector for ~50 state govts and hate the wasted time, money, energy and pissed of customers it creates when they could spend money on other improvements that actually help.
On the other hand, it is a barrier to entry (developing tax collection and payment) for any competition. Hell, they may have lobbied for it for that reason alone, who knows…

Reverb fees on the other hand, sucks.
Crazy Reverb users, just can’t fix stupid.

Yeah, its the law now. Not sure if Ebay is collecting taxes, but they should be. The days of tax-free online purchases are over, or soon will be when everyone gets the message. The forums are about all that's left, and slim pickins...

I’m pretty sure a lot of the crap on Reverb now is people not really interested in selling but if someone’s willing to give them the full “new” / MSRP price for their used gear they’ll gladly move it. I have “ESP Eclipse” on my feed and basically every other day someone puts up a used (& abused) Eclipse for like $200 less than the brand new price, or even worse, higher than the price dealers are listing new ones for on the site

People like the Essex recording dude listing “artist owned” gear at a massive markup are causing folks to try and cash in. Deals are still able to be had but you have to wait a long time for them to come up and act fast.
