You can dial it in usable, but it was never clean enough for me since I used the Volume 1 up around "9".

And, kudos to Racerxrated for quoting MesaGoBloogie's stalker post before he thought better of it and edited it...

Yeah, I played a LOT of shows with a IIC+ from 1999-2003. But as a versatile multi switcher the IIC+ leaves a bit to be desired. There's a middle ground but there was always some compromise. And I was in a band that played to the college/younger crowd so I wasn't just dialing in a Metallica tone. I had to go from clean to dirty a lot and if you dial in the clean to be perfect then the lead suffered, same with dialing in a killer lead.

But since Mesa finally made a sig amp for a guy like Petrucci. Where's the Hetfield Sig amp????? Imagine what a huge hit that would be!!!

That's one of the great parts about this one is that every channel is separate so you can dial in the clean and other channels perfectly now. I still don't know how a IIC+ clean channel sounds - I tried to look online but not many demos. Is it as good as the Mark V if you dial it in especially for the clean?

The cleans are amazing. Massive head room, warmth and clarity.

With that said, I sent my 2C+ to boogie for gain mods and gave up like 90% of the cleans.

To get a decent clean I just keep the vol 1 level down to 6, treble also at 6. Almost totally clean that way. My lead gain is on 7, and I boost a little sizzle back in when I kick on the OD1X. Works great. And yes the clean is the best I've had on a high gain amp IMO. Not quite Fender but damn close. Its as good as the Rivera TBR 1SL I had, and Rivera's have great cleans.

Would be nice if they would start making the Cab simulation optional in case you have your own impulses but want to run direct and quiet...

the resistive load still negatively affects the sound in a bad way

Maybe they found a way to remake the transformer of the 2C+. I mean the transformer in this thing is just insane looking!

Yeah, that's the biggest tranny I've seen on a 100 watt amplifier. Compare that to the tranny on one of my Coliseums. The Coli's tranny is really, really close to contacting the reverb tank...

Is it really that big, or is the headshell just that small? (That's what she said.) :D

Ya I still don't get why they included a CabClone since they sound really bad. I don't mind, though, if I get this amp I'm running it through my Torpedo Live for sure

This is why I've always been a Mark IV guy. It's not the most versatile in the world, but it's better than the IIC+ in that regard. I'm really excited for this Petrucci amp.

I really wonder what a Hetfield Sig amp would be. I'm pretty sure that most people think of Master of Puppets Mark IIC+ tone when you think of Hetfield, but he has a long history with Rectos as well. Not to mention stuff from other companies, like the Wizards, Diezels, etc.. I love both the Mark Series and the Recto amps. I find myself gravitating towards Recto sounds more than anything else lately. I'm bored with the Marshall sound, and the Mark stuff doesn't punch like a Recto with a boost does. If a Hetfield sig amp had a Mark IIC+ kinda vibe, with a Recto channel on board, I would be VERY happy personally. That's an amp built just for me

Hahaha! Yeah, you can't tell in my pic because the power tubes were pulled when the pic was taken, but the tranny is at least 3 times bigger on the Coli than my normal "100 watt" Blue Stripe. It's the same tranny Mesa used in any Coliseum ever made, and it's the same tranny as the Bass 400+, and that thing handles 12 6L6s! It's a big, heavy hog of iron. That's what she always says!

I ran MK III's for several years gigging, I had the same issue with vol1 affecting the clean channel to a point it was a compromise, I ended up running 2 volumes, and a coil tap on my neck volume. I'd have the tap engaged and the volume pulled back quite a bit for clean parts and would switch to it as I switched channels. After doing it for awhile, it was not a big deal. Still a compromise, but a much more workable one. The hardest part was remembering to disengage the tap for the next song if it involved a humbucking neck part. You start to check status before every song just to be sure you dont have to do 3 things instead of 2
I ran lesters and jacksons back then so it was just a matter of adding a volume control with a push/pull option and making sure the neck pickup was one that sounded decent tapped

This could possibly be the first purchase of 2016 for me, it looks promising. Theres always that balance between clean, crunch and lead, that ive found almost all amps lack without help of some sort. One always seems to suffer in some way. With the range of tones Dream Theater seems to do, if this amp covers them all.. we might just have a winner!

They are gonna sell a shit ton of these. Seems like they finally did what everyone has been wanting them to do for years.

Yup. Just like Marshall with the Jubilee reissue....lots clamored for that amp for years. But the 2C+ is the overwhelming amp people want, where Marshall has a few different popular requests. Glad they did this!

Yup. Been hearing and reading about this grail amp for years. I am going to buy one this year

I'll be waiting in the wings for the 1st batch of used 1's to hit the threads  Hope Mesa got it right... really hoping. Secretly starting to save
