Yeah, I wish he'd do a 50 watt Pink Taco V2. I picked up another PT-20 V2 while my Splawn's being built and it's the best little lunchbox head ever. I can only imagine how great it would be with bigger iron and EL34s.I think Dave is headed into a tone area all of us have been hoping he'd go to. I think it started with the JEL and is leaning more into barking Marshall tone than polished modded tone.
I dig the Friedman tone but like a lot of us have talked about, it gets too polite sometimes and takes away from what you want in an amp. I liked what Phil said about having an amp that let's each type of guotar sound like what it is.
Sounds good For sure.
I had a Matchless DC30 that turned up to I think between 3-4 (of 10) was just magical for that type of just overdriven tone. It swirled like there was like a subtle modulation or something. Never heard another amp do that. But it was fucking loud and no it didn't sound like that with the master engaged.Phil X 100 is one of my fav Friedman amps. 20w looks sweet. I like the extras added to the PX20, making it a 3 channel amp. Going to be a versatile sucker. Curious about the Dumble mods on the clean channel.
Happy to see the AC30. Looking forward to checking that one out. One of the best rock tones I ever heard was thru a hardwired AC30/Matchless type amp, that I foolishly traded towards an Orange Rockerverb. This was before reactive loads and IRs, and the sucker was too loud when getting that supreme sound. It's one of a few amps that I wish I could get back.
Exactly the same experience I had with the Mayfly BC30. Definitely had some "movement" to the sound, I think probably had to do with compression in the power amp. The shop I traded it to cranked it as I was checking out the Rockerverb. Instant regret!I had a Matchless DC30 that turned up to I think between 3-4 (of 10) was just magical for that type of just overdriven tone.
