ATTA BOY PHIL!!!!!!

His lil' Tonemaster sounded huge on that stage :hys:

I'll probably catch some crap, but I like Ritchie Sambora. He has a great voice and can play the shit out of a guitar. But, while he's sipping virgin daiquiri's at Betty Ford, was there really any doubt that Phil X (Xenidis) would rip it? That dude rocks! Love the Fretted Americana videos

The standouts in that vid to me are the drumming and JBJ's singing.

The guy is a great guitar player. But it just doesn't sound right. The whole vibe of the band is different. It's more like Jon singing karaoke now.

I think you're a little bit biased... ;)

I concur. Sambora is a beast! I think my favourite guitar tone ever is that half time break thing in "While My Guitar Lies Bleeding In My Arms". HUGE!

And Phil X rips too. Good on him for getting such a great gig.

Great to see a Toronto boy on this high profile gig. The bonus is that is a genuinely a very approachable and nice person.

Cheers,
Mike

Weird to see the Sambora love here...I think the guy is mediocre at best. Good singer though.

PS - you oughta get a hold of pstar, the guy's the lead player for Sven Gali, remember those guys back in the Q107 days Mike?? Anyway, he's still gigging and needs an amp - send him a PM... He's not too far from you.

I should correct myself. Ritchie is an accomplished player/songwriter, in a mega-successful band, and also gets props for being married to Heather Locklear (!). That said, I find his playing very uninspiring....never have heard a riff or solo from him that made me say: "Damn that is cool!" And I find tasty bits in almost all players. *insert Barzini joke here*

Same here, but I'm sure Phil is trying to tread lightly.

Dude is a really good player, and fucking hilarious :D

Good for him

this music is just as terrible today as when i heard it in the 80s, IMO.

You are not alone, dropping Phil X into a band like Bon Blowme is like throwing a Honda MP4-4 f1 engine into a senior's golf cart to get around the senior center grounds.

I always thought this was a cool tune Sambora did.....if i remember the Guitar World feature on this album he used a Dumble on this-

to be honest i thought snake sabo did a better job on the leads on runaway than any lead ive heard sambora do. I love bon jovi and think the songs are awesome but in all honestly i always saw ritchie as a mediocre player in a huge band. Since he's technically always just been employed by Jon and never actually had a real "stake" in the band i always wondered why Jon never sought out an even better player early on with all the talent that was walking around LA in the 80's.
