Just traded in a BOSS Katana I had got a few months ago but never used. Was just gathering dust so decided I needed something I can use. I picked up a used 5150-III 2x12 they had there and figured never hurts, lol.
So here is the rundown. I have these two amps
- 5150-III 6L6 50w
- Friedman pt20 v2
And these cabs
- 5150-III 2x12
- 5150-III 1x12
- Friedman 1x12
So first off, I had been playing my Friedman pt20 into my 5150-III 1x12. Today I plugged it into the Friedman 1x12 my stepson had been borrowing and holy crap! Huge low end chug compared to the 5150-III 1x12. Sounded way bigger than a 1x12 with the PT20.
As expected, the 5150-III sounds better into a 5150-III 2x12 and not as directional and focused. I highly recommend that anyone with a Friedman pt20, go into a Friedman cab. The voicing matches way better than the 5150-III.
