Pickup advice les paul

I actually use sh-14s in strats to make them sound more "les paul" like.
The beefy sounding Les Paul Custom I had it in (where previously resided a JB and a GFS Crunchy PAT) worked awesome with it as well. A reasonably modern tone though...I wanted a bit more kerrang-ish crunch, this classic rock-openness, while being pushy enough to handle high gain, so I settled for a Custom/59 Hybrid from Duncan (and a PGn in the neck). Very allround, rawk-sounding guitar now.

The SH-14 went into my ESP Horizon NT, to also make it a bit more "Les Paul" like.

For Les Pauls, is you want open kerrang, you want Jim Wagner ?‍♂️
but the SD hybrid is a solid choice, and a classic for a reason.

The suggestion of 300K pots is a good idea. Maybe an Alnico II pickup as well. If you find a pickup you like overall except for its high end, swapping in an Alnico II magnet may make the difference. I had a Carvin california carved top, and replaced the magnet in the JB with an Alnico II. It worked great, except for having slightly less output, but I was using a GE-7 to goose the amp, so it was easy enough to compensate for.

I have a JB in my Chubtone but think I'd like a 59'/custom better in there

Thin/bright sounding LP is pure hell. Pickups like Aldrich/Tone zone/ SD will increase bass response but in kind of artifical way.
WCR pickups sound great but it is near impossible to get them in EU ?

Jim won't ship to EU? He sells direct.

My Les Paul is on the bright side (traditional)
Rio Grande BBQ saved it now I get compliments on its tone all the time

just swapped mine out for a jb and a 59 and it’s killer for the type of music I play

Ended up picking up a set of Aldrich pickups. I think I just need a hotter pickup. I like the pickups in my suhr modern. I needed up getting a better tone with my be100 deluxe by flipping some switches around. Just not hot enough for me.

Let us know your thoughts after you get it installed. I have the Aldrich set in my Gibson Flying V and thinking about putting a set in my LP Classic as well.

Cheers

Aldrich pickups have always worked well for me in LP or LP type guitars.

What differences can I expect, should I go with the Aldrich set, over my current Duncan Distortion bridge and Screamin' Demon neck?

First thing you notice is how lightning fast pentatonics take over your playing style. It almost seems unimaginable but it’s true.

I just installed the Aldrich set. Very different from the rebel yell set. A lot less bright and open sounding. Not sure if I love them yet. The bridge is very balanced sounding in a les Paul. The neck pickup is deffenentyl tighter/hotter and less vintage sounding. They don’t have the character that the bkp have but the bridge does not have any bad qualities per say. Will have to adjust to the new sound.
