I don't like the screamn' demon either. In an alder bodied guitar the highs are too spikey and shrill, the lows are not pleasing and the distortion sounds like a drumstick being dragged over a washboard. Ok, that last one was a bit of an exaggeration.... Replacing this pickup was one of the best things I ever did for that guitar.
I would avoid this pickup in favour of one of the customs as previously mentioned.
