Piece of gear you most regret buying

I haven't really had a piece of gear that I consider a piece of shit in a long time, just gear that I don't like.

Yeah the vox satchurator was well made, I just got it home and started wondering why I thought it sounded good in the store. I kept if for a few months and tried to like it. Never could get anything but fizz out of it.

tech 21 -sansamp psa 1 in combination with a bbe sonic maximzer into a 2:20.. sounded like beehive.. the marshall JMP-1 preamp was a far better choice later on when i decided to swap things over..

Lol. I loved my Recto Pre with a Mesa 2:100, a Zakk O/D and two Mesa 4x12"s :)

My G Major II sounds fine. The problem is I have to turn it off and on at initial powerup about 20 times before I can get it to actually boot. Sometimes after a few minutes it reboots over and over. This after spending 7 weeks at TC getting "repaired"
When I get my AxeII the Ultra will replace the TC in my OD100 rig as an FX only unit. It sounds way better and it actually works.

Rocktron ProGap in the 80's, I didn't bond well with that, lol. Hamer Scarab back in the 80's, wow what a POS!! SD Metal Livewire in the 90's...YUCK! Gibson Historic 68RI Custom, what a complete warped neck, humped bad QC piece of overpriced crap, glad that thing is long gone!!!

Exactly. I have heard that it is awesome paired with that Power amp.

I was quite young and inexperienced when I bought my Rec Pre, and was not told that I needed the 2:100 to fully release the beast. I must note that I didn't read all the info either, so I accept my own mistake.

When I bought it, it was just over 2000 euros... And the 20:20 Power I bought along with it, was not much cheaper.

Suffice to say that once I had spent over 5000 US Dollars, I was pretty upset that I couldn't use all the features.

That's when I learned to RTFM before buying

Every Engl I've bought (Thunder, Blackmore, Powerball, etc, ad nauseum)
Mesa Nomad
Carvin power amp (TS100 I think it was called with the chrome front)

There have been a few, but I was also able to either return them, or flip them and lose no money, so I don't really have much to complain about.

There are far more pieces of gear I regret selling ;)

Randall RM100. Thought that the novelty of being able to change modules would be super cool. I didn't realize that it didn't matter what module was in there, the thing still sounded like a solid state modelling amp. I realize other experiences will vary and don't mean offense to those who own and love them. I had a Splawn Quick Rod right before it and that had set the bar pretty high. The Randall was up for sale again the same day I got it.

Whoa there - what didn't you like about it? I think it's a perfect compliment to my Herbert, and has the best lead tone imaginable!

Thats one of the rigs my dad uses with his recto pre, and it sounds amazing! But I have been trying to record stuff with it and it sounds like crap. WHen I use it with my mesa 50 power amp, it sounds a little better but not much, since it doesn't have negative feedback in the power section... I will have to spend another $600 on the power amp...

Engl Fireball 60. Biggest POS I've ever owned.

Yeah... had a buddy who had one for a while and it was the buzziest beast I ever heard. NOT impressed at all. Luckily, there was a Richie Blackmore head at the shop around the same time that seemed to do a great job at nailing the ACDC type tones, so I wasn't completely put-off by Engl amps. Sill very curious about the SE.

Tryin to remember my biggest gear regrets...

Had a bunch that I didn't care for but weren't crap per se (Peavey tweed Classic 50 head, PRS SE EG guitar, etc).

But probably the biggest POS tone-wise that I bought on impulse and never played it again after the first time was some Digitech reverb pedal. (LAME!) Was gonna buy a Holy Grail but saw the Digitech in a pawn shop for cheap and grabbed it.

Mesa Boggie Mark II or Mark 1 spring of 1981 no graphic EQ. Spent hours dialing it in go to another room sounded like crap. Loud pop when switching channels. Never got a dirty tone I liked. I bought back my Marshall 1959 sl for what I sold it for.

For myself personally, the graphic EQ on a boogie is a must. I even tried the mark V without the graphic EQ on and It did nothing for me. To be fair though, boogies and myself have never gotten along :(
