Played an LTD Hetfield Vulture today. Pretty impressed!

I went by Guitar Center today and was looking for a Snakebyte to try out. They didn't have one available but I saw a Vulture hanging on the way and decided to try it out.

I was surprised how solid it felt. I think I expected a really light body and a "plastic" feel to it but felt like a professional, solid-made guitar. The satin finish felt and looked great. Not sure if it is the angle, etc. but felt easier to play sitting down than a traditional V.

Anyway, just my two cents. I guess the only thing I struggled with, and really stupid, was the locking tuners. I obviously didn't know what I was doing because I undid the little wheel and string popped out. :) I think they are Sperzels? Never had them so a bit of an embarrassment for me with all of my years of playing. :) Great guitar though. I'd love to try the Snakebyte though.

Most of the Schaller-style ones with the wheel/nut on the back are there to lock the string into the post, eliminating the need to wrap the string 2-3 times around the post. Gotoh makes a similar tuner, probably Schaller as well. It definitely makes string changes fast and brainless.

My brother has an LTD snakebyte, I don't like the body style for sitting, but it's a nice feeling guitar. Good sustain, feels alive

Does it lean forward or back too far when sitting?

That style of locking tuner is the shit, takes longer to get a string out of the package than it does to change one.

Agree 100%. And then you go to change strings on one of your other guitars with traditional tuners and you think evil thoughts of retrofitting everything with locking tuners...

Seems balanced ok, explorer bodies just wear out my picking firearm/shoulder. It's weird

I bought one last month. Love it. Amazing guitar. Awesome sitting or standing. The satin finish is to die for. Zero complaints.

The Snakebytes are amazing too.

Interesting. I played a Vulture a few times at the GC here (usually pick it up when I go in there because its one of the few good LTDs that they have in stock, and I know it will sound good and I will like the neck), and I was not a fan of playing it sitting. Found it significantly more challenging than my Gibson Vs. Also, they used to have a Snakebyte, and compared to a Gibson Explorer, that back end of the guitar seems a LOT heavier...so much so that the guitar tilts backward while sitting and playing.

I like that about the Snakebyte. It balances better because it's a little more bottom heavy. At least that's how I like my guitars. I like the neck pointing more upward than out to the left.
