Wah. It's hard enough to get my hands in sync, let alone an extra limb.

I love my MXR Flanger, but I'd use it more if it had a level or wet/dry knob (same goes for phasers).

For me, chorus gives that synthetic sound. Also harkens back to the 80's. Nothing wrong with that and it had its place...I just don't care for it much.

Flanger is not too useful, but is cool for about 5 seconds in the appropriate song.

Write-in for acoustic simulator.

Ummm_No.gif

I actually used one last night at a gig. Some friends and I covered Pink Floyd's "Animals" and they really wanted an acoustic guitar sound during "Dogs" and the other guitarist wanted me to do the harmonized solo with him in the song. It was too much of a pain in the ass to switch out guitars mid song, so the pedal was the way to go. It sounded decent enough in video clips my girlfriend took. I'll have a better idea about it when we get the recordings of the show back to us.

Messy reverb. Never truly convincing unless in a professional recording studio setting. Live always try to use the natural reverb from the outdoors, room or hall. A few tips from Eric.

Fuzz, otherwise I use all the others listed (not necessarilty live).

Although most any effect has its place, I voted reverb because (a) you either get it naturally depending upon where you're playing or (b) you get a similar effect using delay.

Had you asked me this question as a teenager, I would have said chorus without a doubt. One of my first amps was a Crate with the most god-awful built-in chorus...just an overly processed alien-like sound. For the longest time, I thought that's what chorus was supposed to sound like!

I chose wah, never liked them...Fuzz is a close second

A lot of reverb hate around here... something I've grown to rely on heavily over the past year.

That EJ clip has a ton of reverb on it. I like reverb, use it quite a bit, much less though on gainier sounds, much more on clean and dirty sounds

Outdoors has no walls so no reverb either. Cascading delays can sound like reverb as well, but I swear that EJ stuff has a ton of verb and delays on the clean sounds

suprised fuzz was most voted, because i voted for it as well. i never liked the whole idea and sound of fuzz, no attack, but i guess it works for smooth tones like eric johnson and some grit on blues like hendrix

That's exactly how to use one effectively - in short bursts to add dimension and drama.

I voted EQ. I have no use for one. I make sure the EQ in my amp gets me the base dry tones I like, and the effects just add flavour from there.

Couldn't have put it better myself. Eq...fuzz is a close second.

I MUST have reverb for clean and blues. For high gain Metal, yeah it muddies things too much.
If an amp doesn't have it, then there is something missing and I have no interest in it.

Reverb very much depends on how much you use. It's not just an on off effect.
It can muddy the tone if applied with wreckless abandon.
But when used just right it can really brighten and liven up a tone.

My preference has been for real spring reverbs.
But I've come to really like digital reverb built into an amp.
My Egnater Vengeance head is the first amp I've had that doesn't have real spring analog reverb.
It uses a digital reverb, but man it sounds sweet very nice.

My least used effect, and I'd say least liked, is tremolo.
C'mon, how many of you actually use tremolo EVER?
I can't believe all the negative comments about reverb yet I'm the only one mentioning the uselessness of tremolo?
I've heard it used decently on some tunes, but I've never been able to use it on anything I play.

OH, and wah is useless?
Are you freaking kidding?

Wah is my go to effect! A few licks in a solo a little hazy? Kick in that wah and play some pentatonic bullshit in the right key and it sounds cool despite it being completely overdone... And it has more "artistic" uses I guess...

I'm agreeing with C-1... Tremolo is pretty useless and I've had no need for a flanger, so my vote is one of those 2

I just get really fed up when I hear chorus for some reason.
