I may need some effects

Since I'm ditching the Katana and relegating it to the garage in favor of the 3rd Power tomorrow, I'm gonna need some effects to round out the sound and help me closer emulate songs that I'm jamming to, or inspire me with sick tones for neo-soul licks.

When I bought my digital rig (that I have yet to play a single note through), I got the Helix because I liked the ability to put effects in an imaginary chain in any order I wanted and still have knobs I could twist to alter the sound, albeit 100% digital.

I don't think I'll need an overdrive, and the amp has on-board reverb. I think I bought a Boss DD20 I think it is (the 2 pedal one that's white), and I've never used it...don't even know what all it does lol. But I could probably use a chorus. Is there a good chorus pedal that's usually available at Guitar Centers? Or does Griff make a good one I can buy? I don't think I'd use phaser much. But hell, maybe Griff makes clones of pedals I'd need.

Honestly the Ibanez Mini Chorus is the best value and quality in the price range IMO. If you want something different check out a CE2W.

But for the money an MD200 is an amazing value new or used for a song.

Id consider these three options.

MD200 sounds legit and as good as any analog chorus I've played with a shit tone of control and features too.

Waiting for @BeZo to chime in… Chorus or flanger must be his arch nemesis.. I vote delay… yesss de-lay 😍

The Griffin Analog CE-MOD Chorus pedal takes the Boss CE-2 to a new dimension. The added bass and mod switches add depth that were previously governed by Boss, and the added Mix knob allows you to dial the chorus in like never before. DM @griff10672 today and order one.

And get the new phaser too.

I haven't tried the Griff chorus. I'm sure it is great. Lately i find my self using my MXR chorus pedal (the blue one) 95% of the time for modulation. Guitar>PXO>chorus>Marshall SC20 covers ALOT of tones.

wow @BeZo .... that pretty much nailed it ....

IMO .... it doesn't get much better than a CE-2 ........ my version is as exactly as Bezo described

it's a dead on clone but with a added cap that let's more Bass frequencies through...so the switch turns it into a dead on clone of a Boss Bass CE-2 ...

the depth switch puts the depth at it's truest maximum or stock ...... which Boss kept lower than what could be achieved

I just replied to your other thread:

about pedals vs digital floor rig...

Try the pedals you have and see first?

I prefer MFX; I used a Line 6 HX-Effects for years in 4CM; I got a Boss GX-100 on sale, and use it for effects only, and I like the integrated expression pedal.

Most recently, I got the Fractal VP4 and I think it's great...though I'd like a VP6; i.e., two more effect slots.

Changing pedals, pedal order, routing, etc., is much easier in the MFX; and if you really like./want/need a specific pedal or a few, you can easily integrate them into most MFX.

edit: I forgot, I also had a Line 6 M9 when they were new. The HX-Effects was a big improvement IMO.

I just had 2 / 20ft cable & a vintage Maxon chorus crap out. Took 2 amps and 1.5 hrs of troubleshooting.
Just bought 3 new 25ft custom cables from Rattelsnake Cable Co [$260] which i was gonna do anyway at some point.
Came to 2 conclusions today : vintage aint always better and less is more with pedals.

Since you are already use to the Katana.. you can stay in the boss family with their MS-3, which also has 3 loops additional effects and the ability to program many boss effects on a per patch basis. The boss 500 units are fantastic and pretty comparable to their Strymon counterparts. Line 6 HX stomp is a fantastic pedal for most boards, and should start seeing a price drop on the used market as people start getting ready to offload them for the eventual upgrade.

Can't decide on a chorus either. Tried a few at GC but their setup kinda sucks...all the pedals are in a loop that goes into a cheapo beginners amp.

The MXR sounds good but can have a bit of tone suck when not bypassed (supposedly). I think the Waza CE-2 sounds the best then maybe a CE5. It pulls ahead with real pretty clean tones then it gets closer when you add distortion

Check out the MXR Wilde too.
