Has there been a band that's produced better stuff in the last 10-13 years?

No.

I'm a HUGE PT fan, but yes, there are other recent bands that I like as much, if not more:

-A Perfect Circle (Mer De Noms is a masterpiece and one of the best rock albums ever IMO. Released 13 years ago :D )
-Silverchair "Diorama" That album was amazing and overlooked.
-Karnivool (IMO, nobody touches these guys for cutting edge progressive, yet mainstream stuff at the moment).
-Coheed and Cambria
-Foo Fighters (yeah I know they don't fit with this category but had to throw them in. can't help it. Love em!)
-Devin Townsend

Porc Tree are great though! Deadwing and In Absentia are on regular rotation. Steven Wilson is an all around powerhouse writer, performer, producer, etc...

His project/band, Blackfield is great too.

Love them. Great band but like Glassjaw said there are bands I like as much if not more. That's not to say they are aren't one of the top bands of their genre IMHO.

Definitely a great band, quite consistent these days in terms of what they're releasing. They also do put a very good show on. Deadwing is probably one of my all-time favorite discs.

I like them, but not everything they have done. The most recent album didn't move me near as much as Deadwing or In Absentia.

They're great, that said...

Muse's first album through Resistance were awesome, with Resistance being the weakest.

Silverchair's output since then was awesome. Pretty much everything since their first album was really great. Neon Ballroom and Diorama were splendid.

The Mars Volta was amazing.

Mastodon has been absolutely incredible.

Tomahawk is pretty awesome.

Karnivool kicks ass.

Battles is really unique and quite enjoyable.

A Perfect Circle.

Queens of the Stone Age has been really awesome though this 6 year long layover between albums has sucked, Grohl is back on drums for the one they're doing right now. Joey Castillo was awesome, but Grohl is Grohl.

This.

Just got the new Steven Wilson solo effort. The raven that wouldnt sing I think is the name. Guthrie Govan on guitar!! Steven Wilson is a freakin genius!! The album is just so thought provoking and he always takes you for quite a sound scape filled journey!!! Very fusion like yet All Steven Wilson! Whaoh i think I have some bro mance goin on!! Guthrie really lays nice lead work down!! 5 stars

I LOVE Gavin Harrison. Killer, sick ass drummer. He did some cool things on the OSI stuff, but he totally shines on the Porcupine Tree albums. He did a killer solo on the David Letterman show, during Letterman's week of drummers thingy.

Neon Ballroom and Diorama are both GREAT records. Young Modern not so much for me.

I love them for their drummer alone. I could listen to Gavin all damn day....guy is killer.

Good to see the Silverchair love on this thread. I feel the same way. I like the orchestral additions to the songs and the songwriting just got better and better over these two albums.

Other great albums of the past 10-13 years?

-Tool: Lateralus
-APC: Mer De Noms
-Karnivool: Sound Awake
-Ayurveda: Being
-AIC: Black Gives Way to Blue

Alter Bridge, Big Wreck, Deftones, John Butler Trio, David Gilmour and Gov't Mule/Warren Haynes as well...If you like Porcupine Tree, check out Opeth.

Muse
Tool
Karnivool
A Perfect Circle
Queens of the Stoneage

They'll all get you to sonic heaven.

Agreed - it's likely to be the best thing I hear this year (unless something absolutely ridiculous is released later on). Incredible record.

Great band but Opeth has produced stuff equal or better than PT has, but it is all a matter of opinion. I really like PT's older stuff and I have seen them live twice. I do have to pick up Steve Wilson's new solo CD.

I'll give you Opeth - everything of theirs up to Ghost Reveries is absolute genius. Heritage was boring though (and that's from someone who loves prog).

Yeah I agree with you on the Heritage release. Not a bad release, but most of it was boring. I do like Watershed though!!!

I'd agree with this sentiment.

I listened to My Arms, Your Hearse, Still Life and Blackwater Park in succession last night. I'm struggling to think of a better trio of extreme metal albums...they're just perfect.
