Has there been a band that's produced better stuff in the last 10-13 years?
No.
In Absentia is still one of my favorites of all time, so dang good. The Incident sort of fell on def ears for me as did Nil Recurring, but beyond that, they are all wins in my eyes

Great band but Opeth has produced stuff equal or better than PT has
Ok lets think, My arms your hurse up to deliverance/damnation amazing..., I'll throw Morningrise in there as well, maybe Watershed (just maybe as a slim chance wild card), but Opeth has done some Duddy, DUDDY releases as well though. Especially their latest, what absolute crap! Yeah, we got a bunch of 70s german prog-records now we can go down that route too...wrong choice

Totally agree on everything you've said, save that I'll add that Opeth, in their prime, were the best band in the world.

Well we are all entitled to our opinion, but I can only thing of one sub par Opeth release and that is Heritage. I would not say it is a dud or even crap, but it is definitely not up to par with what an Opeth LP/CD should be. I think the last good PT release was "In Absentia". Fear of a Blank Planet has some good stuff. I have not listened to the latest one though.

You have all left Ayreon off your lists so far.
Arjen among all his projects (Star One, Guilt Machine etc) has come up with the best music in the past 10 to 15 years IMO.

I'll give you Opeth - everything of theirs up to Ghost Reveries is absolute genius. Heritage was boring though (and that's from someone who loves prog).

I'd agree with this sentiment.

I listened to My Arms, Your Hearse, Still Life and Blackwater Park in succession last night. I'm struggling to think of a better trio of extreme metal albums...they're just perfect.

-C

"Still Life" and "Blackwater Park" are it for me. Perfect!!!!

Storm Corrosion - the Akerfeldt/Wilson project is one of the most boring albums I have ever heard

I thought it was excellent! Much better than Heritage. Rather than trying to be a 1970s prog band (Heritage), they tried to do something different. I think it worked.
