his drumming is top notch though, there's no denying that!

He's a modern day Neal Peart as far as I'm concerned.

Hold the phone. Mike's a great drummer but Neal Peart is one of the best lyricists EVER. Noone in Dream Theater has, or ever will, write lyrics that are anywhere near one Neal Peart has produced.

Obviously, I need to be careful that I don't expect that everyone is like myself. I appreciate a wide range of artists including many I would never go out of my way to hear, or even care to hear. When I do hear them, however, I can certainly understand the appeal they have to others. Conversely, some people completely discount all things that don't appeal to them.

In any event, I'm fairly certain you're playing devil's advocate, so hose off eh.

Hes a guy who went from a music nerd to a rockstar with a tremendous amount of talent. I mean if he was a subpar drummer i might take a little more offense to some of the stuff he does but he's great at it so i kinda let it slide, but that of course doesn't mean i that i condone it. I mean theres guys out there who are way worse and aren't even nearly as good at their instruments.

I think I caught a show where Poison played with Kotzen in the band but I don't remember his level of playing ability (I wasn't a big fan of Poison since I came another school of music but though they had some catchy choruses).

However, Portnoy was one of my favorite drummers while in DT but I haven't caught any of his latest ventures to determine if I would still be a fan.

I will always appreciate what he put into DT and I can listen to many of those songs a thousand times over because of what he added to them.

Richie got booted from Poison for sleeping with Rocket's wife I think, but being the most talented member, writing the best songs, singing better then Bret and being better looking didn't help. Do you really think a hillbilly snaggle grill would lead to all of that? Go listen closely to Native Tongue and you will hear how shockingly good Richie is on that, even when just singing backup. Then consider he wrote a lot of it. I am sure the rest of the band felt great.

Richie did in fact take Ricki Rocket's (Girlfriend/fiance) from him....and was the main reason they booted him. BUT, Richie married her (Deanna) and they have a duaghter together. This is her in this video....she's also singing background.
