I had a purple stripe, I loved it, should never have sold it. I now have a blue stripe, I love it, and will never sell it. The point is, I thinks it's 6 of one half a dozen of the other, they both sound exactly like Mark III's, tight, aggressive, rich....you really can't go wrong with any stripe in my opinion.

Thanks... and good to hear. That's pretty much what Ive heard from some 'pros' in the biz as well... If it has the GEQ, they are all very similar and can get close to each other. Glad you dug your purple... that may help me

If you're just looking for tone, the Mark III is the amp I fell into after owning Rectos and Mark IVs, and when I just need a great "tone", I choose the Mark III every time.

Yeah...Im definitely leaning towards a Mark III... Now just debating the whole 'stripe' thing. Ive got the lead on a purple stripe with eq and simul-class for decent deal.... Not sure how significant difference is between purple and red... Just apprehensive cuz I don't want to get the purple and then kick myself for not getting the red. I want the right one

Well, the differences are there, but they're subtle depending on what revisions you're referring to. All of them are great amps, with the Blues/Reds being the most aggressive. In that regard, the blue gets the edge.

The purple has a little bit rounder tone to it. It's a bright amp, but not as much as the red/blue.

Honestly, for what you want, any of them would be enough, and would give you as much tone as you want.

And, FWIW, you mentioned Sevendust previously...they used all Mark IVs on their debut, so if you know how that sounds, you know what a Mark IV sounds like. Stock, the Mark IVs are darker sounding than the IIIs, but they're very syrupy...

Get the Mark III then send it to Mesa/Boogie for an checkup and new filter caps. They are great amps with thick mids. An excellent lead players amp... they sustain forever.
