Post the monent Face Really/Acne Freckley decided he didn't need to pracite any more.

Dude are you having trouble reading, I said original Kiss.

I know all the the guys who did session work with them afterwards, all that is easy to find. That has been common knowledge for years and literally every Kiss fan even the non obsessed one's like myself know who they are. How about Robben Ford, Mike Porcarro, Jean Beauviour from the Plasmatics. Not of hard to find.

Jesus, my apologies, I wasn't aware there was a difference between Original Kiss ©️ and some other Kiss that exists out there in the universe :hys:

Sure no problem. Actually most fans consider the band as four different era's - original, non-makeup, reunion and scabs.

Well yeah, if you want to consider that 5 years of kiss the only time that counts, sure

The problem with their reputation is the last 45 years.

I get the "meat and potatoes" description of the final product, it's just i'm not convinced they've done very much actual recording as musicians since the late 70s at the least

Dude I just gave you a bunch of names of people who have talked about it, I'm not gonna hunt down every freaking eddie trunk interview and wade through all that Kiss talk again :hys:

I can totally believe that. It's just everything that came after, that's the issue. Notice how every single lead guitar player that has been in the band since Ace has sued for songwriting credit at some point? It's pretty obvious that Kiss has been a brand more than a band since at least that time period.
I'll let you in on a secret. Kiss after 1979 sucks.

Next time i need to be sure were talking about original Recipe ©️ and not Extra Semitic™️
Well Dan, after Ace and Peter left, the revolving door of guitarists and musicians from some of the solo albums was pretty well known, even then. It was also pretty well known some of the Kiss Alive II stuff wasn't Ace. That's quite a long way from "They didn't write their own songs or play their own instruments". Other than your Destroyer revelation ( on one of the crappiest songs Kiss had ever recorded up to that point I'll add) about the solo on Sweet Pain, none of the other stuff on that list rises to that claim, let's say from Love Gun back to the beginning. And Kiss's best songs, things like She, 100,000 Years, Black Diamond, Cold Gin, Got To Choose, Shock Me, etc. are all solid bangers man. Written by Gene and Paul with an Ace song here or there.

Speaking of which. The solo in Shock Me from Alive II is bad ass. Ace could play back then when he wasn't hammered. And the basslines in songs like Got To Choose and Goin' Blind, while not Jaco level virtuoso shit was definitely pretty creative rock and roll bass. Gene's voice back then was so bad ass too.

Yes, original recipe ™️ seems to be much more popular than Extra Semitic©️

It's just mind boggling to me that everyone just ignores that its been a clown show created to milk boomers out of their money for half a century instead of a band

I pretty much ignore everything about Kiss after Love Gun.

Well, Family Jewels is pretty good. I like watching his son rip on him.

Ace has some cool memorable riffs and lead bits but I am always amazed at how such a mediocre and shitty for the most part guitar player was able to inspire millions and a total stud like Dimebag. It is fascinating. I mean, how do you go from a simple pentatonic scale in Love Gun to Cowboy's from Hell lol.

When I think of some of the most torturous tracks to ever have to listen to, 'Rock and Roll All Nite' immediately starts playing.

When they stop and it's just the vocals and clapping/drums in the background........

Makes me grit my teeth.

I have never been into Kiss.

By the 90s, when I was around, they didn't even sound like rock - so the whole track talking about rock n roll while playing old man blues rhythms behind it and dressing up in costumes......

The vocals.....ugh......

Nah man, that wasn't rock to me, and still isn't.

It's like calling 'Johnny Be Goode" rock. It is (or was), just not a version of it I care to listen to.

This is Kiss to me - some old pop rock band that people really liked, for one reason or another, that I could never really understand.

Like what you like without needing other's approval.

Only a problem if you dislike them.

I loved alot of the 80's stuff especially Creatures of the Night, that album still stands up today. Love Revenge (90's) as well. By and large the majority of those albums were recorded by Stanley, Simmons, Carr, Vincent, Kulick, and Singer. Yes they had session/guest players here or there but again the majority of those albums was recorded by the core of the band. I also have zero issue with co-writers, I just don't see the big deal there.

As I said above, I had no use for Singer, Thayer era but supported their right to carry on.

Honest question Dan, you said you're hero's like Kiss so why not go back and listen to their early albums from their debut to Alive II. Go back and watch their live videos from Dick Clark, Midnight Special, Winterland, Anaheim, Houston etc... and see why some of your hero's dug the band. It's all them live and barring the few players I pointed above for recording. And 99% all their music except couple of covers and a few co-writes. Hell go watch live stuff of Creatures, Hot in the Shade, Revenge again, all them. Long before the days of sampling and tracks etc...

Totally agree. However I think it was the fact that it was simple, memorable and it was attainable to many players where weren't looking to be virtuoso's. And for those that were like Dime, a launching point. Obviously I love Kiss and I like Ace's stuff in the early days but oddly Ace is not an influence on me.
