Let's see what you are running at home for recording/clips. I'm still looking at stuff because I'm not sure what direction I want go yet. So let's see what card/interface, what mic(s), what software, etc.

Thanks!

I use KRK RP8's, KRK 10S (sub), and KRK RP5s for speakers. My PC is a Dual Core 2.6ghz Core 2 Duo with a WD Raptor 10k HD. I use an EMU 1212M and an M-Audio 192 Audiophile with Windows Vista. Also I have an M-Audio USB Duo preamp to go with my Shure Sm57 mic. For software I use Ableton live 7 along with Waves plugins (and others).

I also have a Roland 88key midi keyboard (not weighted) going into the computer with a VSTi Grand Piano soft synth.

2xSM57's and a Delta 1010LT lol. Pretty cheap/simple but hey... I like the end result.

I had rearranged the room recently. None of my mics for the drum kit are set up right now. Not shown is my MacPro with my Genelec 8030A monitors. I have to take a picture of those. But I use the MAudios while tracking and the Genelecs while mixing.

I have various mics, usually use a EV N/D468 and a shure SM57 on electric guitar cabs and blend to taste. For a mic pre I use an FMR audio RNP/RNC or my Allen and Heath Mixwiz 16:2DX (when I need more channels for drums)

My sound card is a Terratec EWS88MT, it can take 8 inputs at once. I use Kristal for my recording software into an old Windows machine (needs to be upgraded).

For monitors I use Yorkville YSM1i's powered by a Halfer TA1600. For tracking I use Sony MDR7806 headphones.

Only problem I have now is finding time to record.....

I have a couple of Rode Condensers (NT2 and NT1A) and an SM57; a Line6 TonePort UX2; PC with a Dual Core AMD PC, 3G of Ram with Cubase 4 and Superior Drummer. There's a Korg O1W/FD and a converted electronic drumkit going into a Midisport 2X2 midi interface as well.

Any tips or next "most needed purchase" suggestions appreciated..

My setup is ultra-basic, since I only need to record guitar. Basically, I have a Presonus Firebox hooked up to my Mac Pro (2x Harpertown), and a single SM57. For software, I use GarageBang, Logic Pro, Amadeus II, and a few other things (along with a lot of various plug-ins at my disposal).

I have an old MOTU 828, which is an 8-in/8-out firewire box.

Then some old Event powered monitors.

And some old SM57s. Wait, I'm seeing a trend... :aww:

The new (well, not-as-old...) stuff:

MacBook Pro (2.2GHz Core Duo, 4GB RAM)

Logic Pro, which made obsolete a pile of old plugins that I used to have installed.

I can record my amps via SM57 into the 828, or direct by loading down with Hotplate and running the line out of the Hotplate into the 828, then adding a speaker sim in Logic. Either way has advantages/disadvantages. Both ways may possibly be made obsolete by the Axe-Fx...we shall see....

I plan on running the Axe-Fx into the 828 digitally and then monitoring through the Events, unless it's possible to go directly into the digital in of the Macbook. Haven't researched that yet.

Another basic setup:

SM57 and generic condenser into Mackie FireWire Satellite into Mac/Logic Express.
Sometimes an open 1x12" with a ToneTubby, sometimes a closed 2x12" (now) with V30/CL80 (YT-Clips).

As you know I do have/had some emulators as well . . .

Do I spot a Vh4 and a Herbert out of it's headshell?

If so, I'm mad jealous.

The Herbert out of the shell is the other guitarists. Mine is hidden behind a cardboard box. :) He's selling his Shiva(it's in the background in the microphone shot) and I want to buy it. I just have other priorities right now. :(

That room looks like it's really bright!! Do you use any Gobo's or any room treatments?

Mine is very, very basic. I have a cheap mixer (soon to be upgraded to a Firepod), SM57, SM58, EZ-Drummer, and Reaper. Does the job for me.

Not at the moment but I do want to treat and sound proof it.

:aww:

A.K.A., the idea machine.

I use 2 Presonus Firepods, a host of Shure, Samson, and CAD mics (all the usual suspects), HP laptop (dual core processor at ~3.5gHz together, 3GB RAM, Vista) running Nuendo and/or Cubase. I have Alesis, Mackie and Behringer monitors and a set of Bowers and Wilkins Hi-Fi's for reference. I use a ton of plugins, mainly Waves based. For mastering I use outboard comps if needed, EQ and a TC Finalizer.

If you take your time and get to know your system, you can do quite a bit with a home setup. Check my sig Myspace link for my bands recordings. May not be your taste, but it was 100% done on my somewhat small potatoes rig (no POD's, drum programs, etc.), and I think it sounds pretty good.

How do you find the Genelecs? I was thinking about picking up a pair of the same model...
