I wouldn't even finish it.

I dig that!
I have a Fender super strat and I'm thinking of removing all the body finish soon.

Oiled wood seems to sound better to me. Nitro is a distant 2nd.

Hey is there a chemical I can rub on there that's good for removing the finish easily, it's not a heavy poly finish, it's a Satin urethane finish.
Don't really want to sand it if I don't have to. ;)

I really have to get some better pictures, but here are some of mine.

I have to pull some out tonight and snap pics

I built this one last year. I really was GAS'n for a Tangerine San Dimas with a maple neck. But I didn't have the cash so I built this instead. I already had the Kramer body, so I painted it as close to tangerine as I could. Bought the neck off Ebay, and I had the Invader and the Duncan Custom in the parts box. Bought the OFR from a guy on the Kramer forum. Plays great.

There's stuff at Home Depot that I've used. It's this noxious jelly crap. It didn't work at all on the Poly on my Charvel body.
All that stuff is REALLY nasty smelling and you can just tell it's bad for you.

Do you have a heat gun?
You can go outside with the body and a heat gun and burn the paint off. It will flake off. Just be careful to no keep it in one spot too long.

Better pic/progress report BUMP

Got delayed on projects for a few months, but back on target: This one's body (after a slight alteration to the KnErecessed trem rout for increased range Mitch was kind enough to do -and incorporate into future bodies) has been shipped off to the painter (RCA guitars) and is currently in the prep-stage as of Friday.

It's getting a bomber graphic with a metallic base, decided on this color...

Nothing too crazy, just an understated bolted steel stealth-fighter kinda vibe. It's gonna have a FloydUpgrades Ti Big-Block and string-lock bolts and stainless hardware on the Floyd, was originally going with a Duncan Custom 8 in the bridge, but recently won a set of Porter humbuckers in their July giveaway, so might try the "Clear" in the bridge now, and it'll now have a Dimarzio Virtual Vintage Heavy Blues in the neck. :D

As for the earlier "don't paint it" comments, THIS is the Musikraft body that's getting the natural finish:

Was finally convinced to go with my original gut feeling that body was too pretty to cover up, hence the KnE sub for that project.

Oh, and should also mention all my previous hesitation about using a Musikraft neck from comments in this thread was erased after a long conversation with Scott from Musikraft at NAMM this year, so that's where my next necks are coming from!

I am sort of in the same boat right now with deciding on which company to order a neck from, either USACG or Musikraft.

Both companies have responded, and agreed to "duplicate" my current neck, so that I can start my next project. However, in order to do this exactly like my current neck, both have agreed to take the actual neck and give it the once over for measurements, radius, etc. Just not sure which one will do a better job truly duplicating it, and also not keep my guitar's neck (that I like so much!) for an excessive period of time. Although it sounds like each company will "assign" the job to someone, and the turn around should hopefully only be a few weeks.

Hey TB, are those real Wide Range humbuckers, or normal buckers in a funny cover?

Those are the RI - reissue, tiny humbuckers with a fake-me-out big cover. I sent these to Tim at BareKnuckle and had them rewound. Meh, way better than original, but just not sounding right in this guitar.
After a lengthy pickup quest, it currently has a Tone Zone in the bridge and a GFS Pro Series Alnico II in the neck, with chrome rings and WD Music Products chrome "beauty rings" which are open faced covers.
These are staying in.
I have to get a new picture up.
