I run mine with EL34's and love it.Gene (guitarslinger) uses the 120 which is nearly the same power section and I'm sure he can attest that Paul designs some serious gear. I spent time on the phone with Paul Jr. when I ordered and even called back in there after the fact with some questions and he was extremely patient with me.
It is ridiculously flexible. Pentode/Triode switches, preamp input gain select, high/low power switches, standby for each channel, master standby, as well as killswitch if no speaker load for each channel (very well thought out feature). You can use virtually any power tube with a simple rebias. The only thing I can possibly think of as a con would be the size. It's a fuckin back breaker but completely bullet-proof. If you can find one I would highly recommend it.![]()

The presence and focus features are extremely interactive. In high power mode it makes my M4 sound huge. It has TONS of headroom in high power mode. You can obtain power tube saturation in low power running at about 7. I've never really taken it much higher than 5 full power and it can physically move objects. It literally shakes the floors in all levels of my apartment when pushed, much to my neighbors/girlfriend's dismay.![]()
The thing that I like most about the amp is that it gives you a faithful representation of whatever you put through it. This goes for any volume level. It's not like a lot of amps I've owned where you have to get it up to around 3 or 4 before you can achieve great tone. So in answer to your question about it being tight it is mainly contingent upon what is being used in conjunction (i.e. cabs, pre, guitars, pups).
What type of preamp are you running? What style of music? I'm going to go out on a limb and say that no matter what your answer you will in absolutely not be disappointed if you decide to make the upgrade. From halls to clubs to arenas it will do the job.
Dude - I completely dig the thing. The only downside is the size of your imagination and the amount of energy you are willing to put into achieving what you imagine...boof":3djs38b3 said:Steve,
