Hello everyone, Im new the forum. I just picked up a 2009 Herbert that has 6L6s in it.
I was wondering whats better, those or EL-34s?

I am mostly a lead player and I like a good compressed sound so your not fighting as hard
to get the amp to respond with a lighter pick attack.

Any information would be great. I am sure to have many more questions.

Thanks

The best I ever had my Herbert sounding was with 4 x EL34B and 2 x 6L6GC.

Peter recommends all Ruby EL-34s

With that being said I really enjoy 4 EL-34's and 2 6L6's. Lots of people like the kt88s and the 6550s. The kt 66s are pretty awesome. But since youre going for a more compressed sound stick with the EL-34s and if you want throw two 6L6s or kt66s in there with it. Don't bother asking what brands of tubes are the best in the herbert. I really like the winged Cs and the rubys but you'll have to figure out what you like best on your own and through research. Good luck!! Let us know what you decide!

Thanks for the tips. Mine is loaded with 6L6s right now but I do have a set of TAD
"tube amp doctor" EL-34s so when I get a chance, I will swap them out and re-bias.

Any advise on what cab is the best for lead tones, especially with defination and pick attack?
I have read either the front loaded Diezel German cabs, either with the V30s or GK100s.
Anyone have experience with both ot either or?

front loaded German cab with an X pattern of V30's and K100's is where it's at.

I wish I could find somewhere to check out one of those cabs. If Im lucky, maybe there will be one at NAMM
