searching online i have found posts that says the socket closest to the input is V1, and others saying the V1 is to the left of this one and the one closest to the input is V2.

First of all welcome to Rig-Talk

2nd - I'm not an amp tech

3rd - I've played this amp before and genuinely interested in questions like this. Why are you asking? To change tone or something more?

I thought this would be rather strait forward but as you've already discovered - this amp is overly complicated without a lot of documentation or schematics. But then...its an Egnator. The pre in the middle we can confidently say is the Phase Inverter. So normally yes, I would say V1 is closest to input jack. But according to telecaster forum link below, they reversed V1 and V2 on this amp so that is a bit confusing. My Splawn has input stage on V2 but that's for different reasons. The schem in second link appears to be V1 is input on far left - but again, I'm no EE or tech.

So depending on what you are doing, you can experiment and probably figure it out. You can pull/switch preamp tubes while the amp is on. More safely, you can pop in some diff tubes in each slot one at a time and fire it up and notate change. You could safely pull V1, fire it up and see what happens. Then replace and repeat w V2. That's what I'd do.

As far as your PI thread question, yes you can safely pop in a 12AT tube in there to clean it up or better yet, a 5751. Good Luck.

Have you seen these 2?
